Re: R5 v 220s
Just did this exact upgrade 2 years ago. TOTALLY different boat and experience. More storage, but also a head (or at least head compartment if you just want more storage, but worlds better ride and a much more substantial boat. The 220S was faster at top end, but you could only do that when the lake ...

Re: Anyone move from a R3 to R4 or R5 to R6?
I made a 3 foot jump like you are considering, and for the same reason--better handling/ride in sloppy water. In my case I moved up from a Cobalt to a Cobalt--220S to R5-- but although the 220 was a great boat it got the crap knocked out of it on a busy day. The R5 just floats on top of everything ...

Re: Sea Grass vs Soft-Trac Matt
Tan, ordered new on my 2014 220S so whatever brand Cobalt was using at the time (I think Sea-Dek)Norris_Boating wrote: Tue Jan 26, 2021 6:55 am
what color and brand did you have on your swim platform? I have never had heat issues on mine.
Re: R5 Table
Don't know the exact dimensions of the rectangular table (boat is currently in storage), but bet it's pretty close to the 34 x 18 one shown above. For reference, when mounted in the C-shaped seating area of the port cockpit, it overlaps the front and rear seats by a couple of inches, so it's pretty ...

Re: Sea Grass vs Soft-Trac Matt
I've had seagrass in the interior of last two boats and soft-trak on the platform on last one, but not current boat. Found the soft-trak a) too hard to keep clean as others have noted above, and b) hot as asphalt with the sun on it--I kept having to splash water on the platform so people could sit ...

Re: R5 Dinette Table Install Help - Need Factory Mounting Details
It's also freakin' heavy--I guess so it stays in place, but sheesh. I stow it in the locker in front of the helm, and it's like hauling out a sack of bricks whenever I want to use it. Always afraid I'm going to drop it on my foot.

Re: CS3 to a R5...big step up?
I had a 220S, which is similar in configuration to the CS23, and upgraded to an R5--total game-changer in terms of handling big lake chop. Significantly heavier and most of all a lot more freeboard. The 220 pounded and got doused with spray going through big wakes, and the R5 cuts through much more ...

Re: R5 Dinette Table Install Help - Need Factory Mounting Details
Don't have access to my boat right now, but attached are a few pics showing location of the mounts; the ones showing the swim platform mount and with my wife behind the table is my boat, the top one I found on the internet.

Re: 2019 Cobalt R3 - Garmin Cockpit - Gauge issues
Same thing happened to the gauges on my '20 R5 last week--all gauges in the main display showed blank. I restored them by just diddling with the touchscreen for a while when I was at anchor, but unfortunately since I'm not now on the boat I can't recreate exactly what I did except that it had to do ...

Re: Flooring Recommendations
Have had seagrass in the last two Cobalts; wouldn't get anything else. Carpeting is something that should be in a bedroom, not in a boat, IMO (had in 1st Cobalt)--takes too long to dry, too hard to clean and just looks dingy unless brand new. SeaDek is ok for swim platform (had on 2nd Cobalt), but ...

Re: Suggestions for Mooring Cover on R3
Having both would be ideal, but I just went with a mooring cover since the boat is on and uncovered lift when not in use. The mooring cover provides better weather protection (when installed correctly) and doesn't create the oft-seen "funnel effect" under the windshield when the velcro between the ...

Re: Problem Anchoring R7 Surf
Steve, Add 5-6 feet of galvanized or coated chain with shackles between the anchor and the rode.(anchor line). This is a 25 dollar investment and certainly won't have any negative impact. Also as others have pointed out make sure there is enough scope. Sometimes 10: 1 is just not practical. I ...

Re: R6 Reveal Live on July 10th
With the R6 maybe they are following the same design. Perhaps they feel more cockpit space is a more usable feature than a more generous bow section? Did you notice the seat back in the R6? Was it more upright or the same as on the R5?
Seat back seems to be pretty much the same angle ...

Re: R6 Reveal Live on July 10th
Was at a little party at Gordy's on Friday for the reveal and they rolled an R6 out for walk-throughs after the video reveal was over. My hands-on observations:
1) Overall look is rather blocky and not as "swoopy" as the R5. The character line on the hull is distinctive, the wrap-around effect of ...
