I just sold my 220s and was thinking about upgrading to the R5
What are the major changes/upgrades when you move to the r series boats compared to the 220’s.
It looks like better storage and more space but wondering what else to consider. Is it a smoother ride etc?

100% diff ride. Totally different feel. Like a small car going to a large SUV.
Plus a ton more room. Can't go wrong.

Re: R5 v 220s
Just did this exact upgrade 2 years ago. TOTALLY different boat and experience. More storage, but also a head (or at least head compartment if you just want more storage, but worlds better ride and a much more substantial boat. The 220S was faster at top end, but you could only do that when the lake was totally flat (i.e., maybe twice a year)--the rest of the time it got the snot beat out of it in the chop. The R5 is smooth all the time.

Re: R5 v 220s
That’s good to know, I had the underpowered v6 240 engine too so I’m glad I was able to sell for just about what I paid and back in the market for an r5 now.
I think I’m going to test drive one this weekend, it’s a 2014 380 hp with under 200 hours priced at 86k

Yea I don't like the new 220 compared to mine. That's a totally different boat too. I'm not afraid to bring mine anywhere that I go boating! That r5 sounds like a great deal and boat. That 380 is a 6.0 engine. Again totally diff then the 6.2 380 in today's boats.

Re: R5 v 220s
I had a 2016 210 for a year (bought it new in 2018) and found it noble and sporty with the new generation V6. I traded it on on a 2019 R3 (VP350DP) without a test drive and the first time I took it out I thought I'd made a mistake. It was much heavier handling and slower to turn - not as sporty. But that feeling lasted about 30 minutes and I fell in love with the boat. Now in my 4th season I don't see how I could ever go back to a 210 (or 220s). Lot's more freeboard, more room, secure handling in rough water and superior build quality than the 10 series. But, take one for a spin and see what you think. Good luck!

Actually if you compare at the power and torque curves for the 300 and 350,they are the same until something like 4,000 rpm, after which the 300 flattens and the 350 adds the extra horsepower (and a few mile per hour of top end). I doubt most people would notice the difference.Krob1114 wrote: Wed Aug 24, 2022 8:05 amYou go Bob. Next time to we go to the lake, we'll hit 200 hours. Not counting when my wife drives, and that's not much, I hardly touch 4000 rpm.BobRae99 wrote: Thu Aug 25, 2022 7:18 amActually if you compare at the power and torque curves for the 300 and 350,they are the same until something like 4,000 rpm, after which the 300 flattens and the 350 adds the extra horsepower (and a few mile per hour of top end).
