It depends ENTIRELY on where you live. The OP is in Lake Tahoe, so that's likely the going rate. I suspect West Coast Boat Center quoted him, as their other shop in Rocklin (near Sacramento) also quoted me $145/hr for a PerfectPass install.

By way of further example, the shop time rate for BMW or Mercedes dealer service centers here in the SF Bay Area is north of $200/hr. Even the VERY good independent BMW and/or Mercedes repair shops I frequent are in the $150/hr range.

I contacted Corsa directly and the price for my 2008 222 with a 6.2 was $2150 shipped. They use 3M 4200 sealant on the exposed core of the boat after drilling the holes to seal it back up. The sales guy sent me all the diagrams with measurements and instructions, I'm going to do it myself. I don't think it's for the average handy man though lol I used my mill and made an aluminum collar with a hole cut in it same diameter as the hole saw, but I made the hole on the correct angle so I can hold the collar flat against the boat and start the hole on the correct angle. It isn't a straight through hole....

Was that a 4 inch hole. I might need that.

Can someone explain the benefit of this exhaust system?

It simply raises the exhaust outlets above the water line for sound. No performance advantages.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I don't like these systems. There are two boats (non Cobalts) in our marina that have these systems. We were out in a bay about 3/4 mile from the breakwater exit of our marina last Sunday evening listening to music and talking when one of them came out onto the lake and headed past the bay at full tilt and continued south. the sound was so loud, I couldn't believe it is allowed. We were able to hear the loud exhaust long after we could no longer see the boat.

I was just thinking that there is nothing that destroys the tranquility and relaxation of floating on anchor on a quiet evening than a boat roaring by with a CC system. I'd never own one.

I'm in agreement with BobRae99.
One of the things my wife loves about our Rockford Fosgate sound system is that we can crank it up while we're cruising.
Maybe I'm just too old.

I’ve said this before and it applies here as well as other upgrades we want ( not need ).

Your wish to add a switchable exhaust is not only fun now, but will be again for future owners. ( Resale improvement).
Sure the price doesn’t pencil as we compare this with a Factory upgrade at the time of order. But the top of the Cobalt wasn’t on yet and it was easy to rig.

Your having a install done that has to be “perfect” but with the highest degree of difficulty as it is already together and running.
I think your going to enjoy it at that price point, and like anything else we want but don’t need it is entertainment for your Boating!

That's a good price. What boat and engine do you have. I think tops is 6 hours and at $120.00 a hour is what I would expect.

Don’t mind the non- California peeps here.. see they pay realistic prices for services in our recreational world. They have great options and selections for all the Cobalt and service needs.

So as you’re a Nor cal guy. Give Boatmasters in Livermore a call and get a quote. They are still in a upper $$ market but are well rehearsed in performance upgrades.

I'm sorry I never saw this. Like YT said, I was floating in some White River lakes up to ear lobes around July 24th last year.

When I bought my 252 the CC was something I REALLY wanted, but the boat didn't have. We have a fantastic mechanic in the Wichita area that used to work at a Cobalt dealership named Barry Dorion. I talked to him and he said I could probably do the job myself, but there is so much that can go wrong if it isn't done right. Barry has done hundreds of systems so when it came time there was no doubt I was going to let him do it. I was out the door for $2,700.

My system was $2,000 from Corsa, and installation was $700. Corsa impressed me immensely because they quit making hte system for my boat a long time ago. I have a carb'ed 7.4 Volvo. Barry worked with them and they found the plans for the systems they use to sell for my boat on microfiche. They had their folks manufacture a single set of whatever it was I needed, and the price stayed at $2,000.

I've heard plenty of people say there is no performance advantage, but that is absolutely not true in our case. Our through the prop exhaust cuts down on flow tremendously. Turning the CC on adds between 3-4 mph for our boat. I know there isn't as much of a gain in small blocks or fuel injected boats overall, but the sound is pretty awesome. It was a lot of money at the time, but it was what I wanted. I got a fantastic product and installation so I got what I paid for.
