Cobalt in MO

Post by Eric55AMG »

Hi all,
Picked up a "new to me" one owner 2011 Cobal 302 in December. It has the twin 8.1 volvo's with right at 100 hours when I bought it.

Was able to do a survey and sea trial in November before closing the deal in December. I hauled the boat from Lake Cumberland to LOTO where she sits until spring. :(

Ironically, surfing Youtube, I found two videos that the original dealership (Lodder's Marine) did with the boat before selling it to the previous owner.

I've been around boats all my life, but this is the first Cobalt, first Volvo, and first with a vacuflush head (with macerator).

Cannot wait for spring!

Eric

Congrats from Wisconsin. Welcome
What a beautiful beast.
Love the sound of her. I love it just because it's ironic it has twin Volvo 8.1s and the guy is wearing a mercury hat. Are they the gi or gxi.

Hey Eric55AMG (Mercedes owner ?)... congrats on your 302 purchase. Great machine and plenty powerful with those twin 375 horses pushing her.

...and thanks for posting not only pics, but videos! Love the sound and look—especially with the stainless arch. The lines flow nicely.

You’ll enjoy the captain’s call as well.

What type of boating do you intend to do in Missouri?
Curious what boats you’ve had in the past. This is a great site and we love all types here.

So glad you found us, Eric. Hope you stay awhile to post. Once again, welcome aboard my fellow Cobalt friend.

Thanks all for the welcome replies.
Yes AsLan7 ... I have an older E55AMG and a newer GL550.

I grew up going to Lake of the Ozarks mostly, but we did venture to Mark Twain, Table Rock, and the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. Now we primarily only go to LOTO.

My parents had an old Blue Finn (made by Bayliner if I recall correctly), then moved up to fourwinns. Through friends and family, I've driven (and docked) everything from trolling motor powered john boats, to twin engine 40' off shore power boats.

I got out of boats and into sports cars, motorcycles, and competition shooting for many years, but then came the kids and things slowed for a while ;-).

Now that my kids are older (10 & 12 girls), we've gotten back into the water.

For the past several years, we've been renting different boats (mostly pontoons as we played the role of "party barge" with the large group of friends / neighbors that we hang with. One of our neighbors has a 26' PowerQuest that we'd tube & ski behind, and we kept gravitating back towards open bows (not a fan of pontoons on LOTO).

I've been looking at boats for the past few years and debated between a number of them. We were actually getting ready to put a deposit on a Formula 310, but after the last sea trial ... decided we wanted to look at Cobalt one more time (we were looking at an R30) before writing the check.

The dealer just happened to have a used 302 sitting next to the R30. We liked the layout of the 302 better, and it actually rode better (in our opinion) then either the R30 or the Formula 310.

So after looking for a while,I finally found this one with everything on it I wanted (minus the joystick) and pulled the trigger.

I've been lurking on this site (along with a few others) learning everything I can from everyone's post.

Looking forward to participating in the comradery that I've seen here thus far!

Very cool, Eric!

Some great hobbies too. (love the AMG series) You will fit right in here as there are quite a few kindred spirits with your similar interests.

Your boat (yacht) is gorgeous, and you'll make some great memories with your girls on her. Money and time well spent in finding the right model. I don't think you will be disappointed in the Cobalt quality and ride either. Thanks for a great post!

Welcome from Texas Eric55. 6' longer and twice the horsepower of my boat. That baby is gonna fly!!! A seriously manly vessel!!

Thanks for sharing. Glad you made the decision to move away from lurking.

I feel obligated to let you know, other than John the admin, I am the only sane member of this chat group (pay no attention to my groundhog-in a boat- in a desert avatar).
