12V on while on Shore Power?

Post by Lowrider03 »

This might be an easy answer for the group. On my last boat when I was plugged into shore power I had the option of turning the fridge on while connected, I could turn off the batteries and head home when we returned our drinks were icy cold. With this boat I don't have the option to turn the fridge on while connected to shore power, I would have to leave the 12V (and batteries selected to 1 and 2) on, is this Ok? I'm guessing that the batteries will still charge with the 12V on, but I'm feeling stressed that leaving 12V breaker on while connected to shore power is wrong.

Sounds like the fridge is a 12V only fridge so what you are experiencing is totally normal. Your boat is no different than every RV out there!

So it's ok to leave the 12V breaker ON while connected to shore power?

I figured this out, I knew the answer all along but just wasn't sure. The refrigerator is a Norcold DC 0040, which doesn't appear to be AC/DC. So if I want cold drinks, I'll have to run both systems.
