No Spark / Ignition
No Spark / Ignition
Need some help here and giving the most detail I can so y'all can direct me. OK, hooked up known functional timing light, no flash / no ignition / no start... of course. Mercruiser MPI 7.4 I believe gen IV. Coil resistance primary side approx .2 ohms secondary around 8.4k. Suspect that coil is OK. There are two connectors to the coil, one black and one grey. Both have red wires I suspect for ignition voltage. the black connector has a resistor in series that measures 3.8 ohms. I'm not sure but I believe this harness wire reduces the voltage to the coil after the engine starts? The red wire on the grey connector is terminal / battery voltage at 12.6. I have isolated the tachometer to ground possibility be removing all wiring from the tachometer itself and have them hanging in the air without touching anything (except for the ground wire). Is the resistor wire harness supposed to also have 1 or so voltage on the red wire when not running and ingnition switch in the on position? Also, what is that grey colored piece that has a three wire harness going to it? Thoughts? Thank you all in advance!
