Bad Dock, Bad
Already have the appointment made at the shop...
I'm just going to have the shop fill the blue, otherwise, it would be a big blend. The shop said if I was going to turn it into insurance, the way to do it would be to respray the whole side for about 9k. No thanks, we will go the 2k out-of-pocket route.

Re: Bad Dock, Bad
That sucks. Sorry to hear/see.
Something similar happened to me and my last boat. Tied up in a slip overnight at a marina, but had some weather and big waves roll in. The bow of my boat bashed against the concrete dock platform all night. Did a number on my boat for sure. It didn't hurt resale though since it was low enough it was hardly noticeable.
Your damage will be much more obvious, and I'd want it fixed as well.

Re: Bad Dock, Bad
We took the boat to the south end of the lake on Wednesday and had lunch. For this particular set of docks, it is really narrow in the alley and we are at the end along a long dock, but on the inside, so I couldn't swing the bow around. By the time I got the bow around, the wind caught us and blew us back alongside the ends of the docks. I put it in neutral and hopped off to give a big push and had my wife put it in gear after I pushed. Unfortunately, I didn't get a good enough push and my wife cranked the steering wheel to the right, putting the stern into a dock end while moving forward. We did a U-turn to make sure we had not damaged a boat that was in that dock (we didn't) and embarrassingly ended up in the exact same situation. I gave a bigger push the next time.

That's a very challenging docking situation K. Nothing worse than a quartering tailwind with a hazard on the downwind side.

A7 is right. That’s a tough corner if the wind is against you. Hopefully they can get her back to beautiful for you
Re: Bad Dock, Bad
I would wet sand and polish all scratches if not through the gel coat on the blu. For the gouge in the white I would clean it up and use white marine epoxy and and sant to form then polish easy fix.

Agreed on sanding you would be surprised how much you can sand. I would get spectrum gel paste and fix that little chunk. Otherwise get some blue gel paste too for the scratch.skno wrote: Sat Aug 06, 2022 8:14 am I would wet sand and polish all scratches if not through the gel coat on the blu. I'm going to leave this one to the pros. The white chunk has cracks coming out of it, so it needs to be enlarged.skno wrote: Sat Aug 06, 2022 8:14 am I would wet sand and polish all scratches if not through the gel coat on the blu. Saleen fixed the nose when I crunched it on a dock at Lake Powell a couple of years ago and it looks really good, so they will get to do this as well.

A lot of gelcoat manufacturers/suppliers are pretty good with color, and sell in small enough quantities for a "DIY" repair. Check out:
