R8 Helm Seat Legroom

Post by moc611 »

I just took delivery of our new R8. Love the boat, but the helm seat puts my knees in the dash, it is worse than the R8 I sat in previously. The dealer is reporting that they do not have any options for me, besides remounting they pedestal base which will be messy and involve sea grass repair.

Has anyone run across this issue before? I am hoping to find an aftermarket slider solution that has more fore/aft throw in it.

Thanks!
Mike

Well you’re either going to need to move the dash or the chair. I’d say the chair is likely easier.

Is this really that big of an issue though? Most people stand or sit with the bolster seat up when underway. I never feel comfortable piloting while sitting with the seat down and I’m a fairly tall guy.

Perhaps this is why they offered the electric helm seat upgrade?

I find it hard to believe they moved it from a different r8. If they did they would have had to change the sea grass and sea dek patterns. Those are all precut before the seat goes in.

I have an R8S and I’m 6’2” and my knees hit the dash as well. I have the electric seat. I’ve been researching someway to get just an inch more of room as it is really annoying. I don’t think it’ll be a big deal on our local lakes but when we go to Table Rock we like to cruise the lake. I was much more comfortable in our R7. If you find a solution let me know!!!!

Perhaps. But after talking with the dealer, we figured the manual would be easier to modify. Hard to know for sure what is better when there’s no inventory

Perhaps it was not the pedestal that is different, but there is definitely less room.

I always think about the user names people choose. I think I've figured out the 611. Lol.
I'm a stand or booster seat guy, never have sat down to drive. I'm going to check this out when we finally get on the lake.
Maybe Sliderule can make some kind of plate to move the seat back using the same base.

Wow. 6’11”.

Great point on the username and tapping Slideruleracer’s fabrication abilities as a possible solution. Shoot him a PM moc611. Can’t hurt.

You’ve got the user name correct! Thanks for the tip!

I’m coming from a 263 and I did like to cruise both with the bolster up and down. I’ve had just a 30 minute delivery cruise in the R8 and haven’t spent any more time on the boat yet. So maybe I will be more of a bolster cruiser in this boat. We are still waiting for spring to arrive in Norther Idaho. A few inches of snow on the ground this morning.

Thanks again!
