1999 293 gas tank issue
1999 293 gas tank issue
Ok this one has me puzzled. Our 99 293 has a 110 gallon tank. I have absolutely confirmed this by the sticker on the tank itself, however, we have only been able to put in roughly 70 gallons. BUT, the gas gauge says FULL! Has anyone else seen/heard of anything like this? We have ran it completely empty (per the gauge) and filled it up to full (per the gauge) but only 70 gallons were put in.

Have you owned this boat since new? If not, may be possible that previous owner replaced the sending unit with an incorrect one.
You could always pull the sending unit and check its range in inches and then stick a measuring tape to the bottom of the tank to see if it matches.

I guess if you run it empty why would you fill it per the Guage. Fill it up to you hear it coming up the breather?

sorry I can see how that is misleading. We fill it up till it stops, topping it completely off (at around 70 gallons), and the gauge says full as well.Big Block Power wrote: Fri Jul 09, 2021 1:13 pm I guess if you run it empty why would you fill it per the Guage. I would rather my gauge show empty but have 40 gallons left than show 1/4 left and be empty

lol same here, but there just can't be 40 gallons left. At this point, that is the only thing that makes any sense. We of course have never run out of gas, but we get uncomfortable when the gauge gets around 1/4. Might just see how low we can get it with a 5 gallon jug on board just in case. I mean unless the fuel sender is just incorrect, but it looks factory.rabiddawg wrote: Fri Jul 09, 2021 2:07 pm I would rather my gauge show empty but have 40 gallons left than show 1/4 left and be empty

We have only owned the boat for a year, so you may be on to something, although the sending unit looks untouched, but could have been replaced 10 years ago or more. I'm reaching out to previous owner to see if he knows, but yeah I can't imagine what else it could be.bruceb58 wrote: Fri Jul 09, 2021 1:09 pm Have you owned this boat since new? Boat fuel gauges are notorious for being inaccurate.
Last October I took my boat up to Hot Springs Arkansas to see some college friends.
Got back home and boat sat for 2-3 weeks. I decided to crank boat on hose. It fired up and ran for a minute tops the died. Cranked it again and same thing. Drive it to gas station for a sip and it ran fine afterward. I was that close to paddling
