New Cobalt Owners, 2000 226 in Kansas

[First time Big Block]

Hello all, figured I would post in here since I have been constantly on this forum for the last 2 weeks. We just bought a 2000 226 with the 7.4gi in Dallas. So far so good, had it on the water twice the first week and at the lake now ready to put it in tomorrow morning. Vast improvement over our last boat, 1978 Boston whaler Newport 17. Replaced the stereo and the Sump blower tonight. Still troubleshooting the captains call, can’t wait to hear that 7.4 above the water.

Anyone familiar with the switch wiring color scheme? I have a purple w/red stripe wire in the engine bay that was pulled out of a connector. Need to test it and find where it goes. Cobalt wiring diagrams show where the wires go, but not a color coding on them.

There are some wires in the engine compartment that are not used. These are for options that you may or may not have. Not sure without seeing any close up pics.
I take it when you flip the CC switch yoiu are not hearing the electric solenoids click. You can physically pull the rams to make sure the butterfly valves move. If you hear the click when switching do you see anything moving? Have you checked the breaker?

Sweet welcome. That boat will fly very good with that package. Here is the best I can't do on a 220.

Get us pictures of what you have. Hopefully the 226 can help you out.

I found a red wire that had a connector to the purple/red. Also found one fuse on the back side of the engine and checked it. After this weekend I will get some wire and hot wire the solenoids to check that they are working. Guessing at this point it may be 2 bad solenoids.

Thanks Aslan, yes, no noise from the engine compartment or movement from the solenoids when the switch is turned on. The butterfly valves move freely. Indicator light on the switch lights up for what it’s worth. I can trace the wires to the back side of the engine where I found the fuse. It’s hard to see in that pic.

Two failed solenoids would be extremely rare.

Do you have an electrical tester?

The switches will normally light up regardless if anything is connected to them. Can you look under your dash and make sure the connector is on the dash switch from the wiring that runs to the solenoid?

My next step will be toning out the switch wire. It appears to be connected and testing for voltage at the solenoids with switch on/off. As well as hot wiring the solenoids to check function. 2 failed may be uncommon, but I know almost zero history on this boat. They could have failed one at a time over the last few years and just were never replaced. The stereo had some shotty wiring connections when I replaced it last night, clearly a diy job to wire up a iPod base or Garmin. Had the wire stripped in the middle and then just wrapped the other wire around it and electrical taped. .

The corsa system can be active in closing and not opening when the solenoid get tired. Put them on once you established power then manually open them.

I looked at a Baja once that had the diverters wired open with coat hangers, lol.

Welcome from Oklahoma! Great intro. No ideas on your Corona exhaust, but keep on keeping on and you'll sort it out!

New weekend, new adventure. Boating got cut short and had to be towed in Friday night after dark. Poor little jet ski could barely get it moving. Hit top speed of 53 with 2 adults and trim adjusted. Still had the bimini up. Right when it hit 53 the front two parts of the Bimini ripped lol. Had a little bit of a panic moment pulled it back from wide open and must have had my finger on the shifter safety. Went from 53 to 0 pretty quick, engine died and we were dead in the water. Motor ran fine but would not spin the prop. Got it back On the trailer and had a few too many adult beverages.

Tore into the lower unit today, pulled the entire drive first assessing the damage. Top part of the drive was ok, phew. Prop would spin, but wouldn’t spin engine shaft. Separated the upper and lower and found the spline shaft had seared off right where it was supposed to. Upper and lower shafts seem fine, no twisting of the splines. Just a clean snap right down the middle. Ordering a new spline shaft now and will re-assemble and grease it up good when It gets here.

At least the right part broke when it was supposed to. Always hate being towed in.
