It's Malibu's fault.
Sorry and welcome.
It doesn't exist without pictures.

Welcome from California, and let’s see some pics of that center console and drivetrain. Slick model.
You can always add closed cooling.

Just remember it's not Cobalt that Installs closed cooling. That's merc or omc or Volvo or Bobo in the back.
Most engines today are closed cooling.

Someone bought a boat? What boat?

BTW, I bought a submarine. And a helicopter. And an elephant. But I don't have any pictures. (see how this works)

Welcome to CC anyway!

That is SOO cool! Restoration is going to be fun! Congratulations!

Has the outdrive been replaced or just painted? It looks pretty ean compared to the water stains on the boat.

For cleaning the hull put some toilet bowl cleaner in a spray bottle and spray it on the bottom. Then use a sponge mop and water hose and it'll clean right up.

Buffing will bring those sides back to life big time. Use a coarse compound, then medium, then fine. A final pass with a swirl remover and she'll shine!

Welcome from SE Louisiana. And welcome to "C Series" ownership. The "C"s are very special as I think you will soon realize. I have a 1985 CM23 that is about 90% restored/refurbed. As You will find out the CMs do not have much room under the engine cover for anything additional. I raised the cover on mine about 3 1/2" 20 years ago to accommodate 4" exhaust risers. This allowed room for closed cooling to be added later. They do make some pretty compact units for small block engines.

In looking at your pics the best thing I can say about yours is it's very original meaning....nobody has screwed it up. Yours looks in better shape than mine was when I got it. Keep the pictures coming of your progress, be sure and also join the Cobalt Facebook group and look for your boat on Cobalt's Classic Tuesdays feature. Cobalt Boats likes "C Series" boats.

Welcome to the club and glad you snagged a great Cobalt classic. The CM series just make the boat sit so nicely in the water and able to stay on plane at incredibly low speeds. looking forward to seeing the progress!

As far as the closed cooling, Cobalts are geared towards the fresh water lake boater so they didnt really consider corrosion a problem
