Transom speakers for 2003 / 262

Post by c2atgh »

I am brand new to the forum and in the process of upgrading my sound system with JL Audio in my 2003 / 262. My dock has a very low ceiling, so I do not have a tower. Therefore, I am looking at installing (two) transom speakers for listening while in the water or when being pulled behind the boat. I have tried to do my due diligence by searching the WWW & this Forum, but have been unable to find another 2003 / 262 with either 6.5" or 7.7" transom speakers installed and wondering if there's a reason for that? A.) I wanted to see how it looked? B.) I wanted to understand if there were any issues working in the engine bay and whether spacers were required...and if so, how big? C.) Are you happy with your decision to install transom speakers...b/c we all know, making a big hole in fiberglass is a big deal, especially on the exterior of our beautiful boats.

Hey C2.
Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!

A few folks here have installed transom speakers. They’ll chime in shortly. YTMSN has a nice setup.

The issue with getting too big is they can look awkward on the narrow portion of the 262 “ledge “ if they overhang.

Any pics of your baby? :?:

Again welcome aboard mate!

I have a 252 and added transom speakers this Spring. I can't answer your specific questions about your 262, but I can tell you that adding the JL 7.7's was about the best thing I had done. They make a huge difference when you are floating behind the boat. It was really hard to have those holes cut, but it added so much. I'd do it again in a New York minute. The 6.5's will sound great, but the 7.7's carry a little wider range and have plenty of bass.

Those are 12 inch each! Sounds bad ass to the bone 😂

No really this is YT's boat.
I think they are 6.5.

I did just notice that picture was before the unicorn 👍
