This one was headed south. It was in the flight path for Tinker AFB, but who knows. When I Googled I found out that TAFB in OKC was a depot for the B17 as well as where the last B17 flight crew was trained, so it was probably some sort of D-Day ceremony.

I was outside working when I heard the engine of this old girl and ran to get my phone for an picture.

A couple of years ago I saw a B 1 fly over and that's as rare as seeing a B 17. From what I understand the B 1 program is based here, and now TAFB will be home for the new B21 Striker as well as the KC46 tanker. A7 what's it like flying one of these bad boys?

I used to work across from O’Hare and man, when the Chicago air show was coming into town you could tell when the military jets came in. The B1 literally shook the entire building.

Lol! ha thats a great pic! May the force be with those who refuel planes in the sky. We live next to Scott AFB in ofallon il. My neighbor is a refuel pilot of some kind.

Worked on-base at Tinker for 10+ years. When the B1's took off, all the cars in the parking lot
sounded their alarms. "Loud" just doesn't cover it.... is there such a thing as an airquake?

Bfun it 2017 at eaa that they had the b1 b17 and stealth bomber all flying together? It was pretty cool.
I only got a picture of the stealth. Which was the first time I ever saw it in person.

I thought I had that picture but can't find it. But it was a B1, B52 and the stealth. Not sure if the B17 can fly faster than the others stall speed.

When I was living in San Antonio, Kelly was still the place for maintenance. Saw F117, F15 & F16 (whole squadrons at a time), C5's, B52's quite regularly. I did see a B1 once....first, they are evil looking in the sky. It took off, circled 4 times at about 2500ft, then it must have gotten clearance that was time to leave.....BOOM and it was literally gone. Loudest plane I have ever heard.

Those B-1’s were bad a$$ in the desert where we were deployed S55330. Their call sign was BONE and many had skull and cross bones painted on their ordinance.

You’re correct. With four after burner engines at full throttle— it’s like Captains Call on steroids X 100....for airplanes.

They were based with us in the Persian Gulf with 125 degree heat. ...just another day on the job...24/7 dropping thunder. Glad they are on our side.
