XM satellite weather review

I am in the process of putting together a build for a CS23. We are planning on including the Garmin 7607 and satellite radio. What are opinions about including the XM weather radio? We plan to be visiting lakes from desert areas such as Powell to lakes in The Ozarks.

I have no experience with the XM weather service.

We use our helm mounted VHF weather radio on channel 2. Others will chime in though.

I've been in a couple of aircraft that have it and it's really nice as it refreshes every 2 minutes and is available at ground level.

For boating on inland lakes, not sure I would subscribe. Not familiar with the Ozarks, but at Lake Powell, the south part of the lake has decent cell coverage so you can use cell-based apps for T-storm watch. Up north at Bullfrog, cell service is spotty so cell-based apps won't work too good. We have been going to Lake Powell for over 20 years and the only time we have been caught out is because I didn't fully understand, appreciate or recognize visible incoming storms properly. Also, I wanted to keep fishing as long as possible.

I subscribe to the Sirius XM Weather Service and really enjoy having radar information displayed over my navigation charts displayed on my Garmin MFD. I installed the Garmin GXM 53 Weather Satellite / XM Radio Receiver / Antenna to receive the weather data and the Sirius XM radio signal. If thunderstorms are a concern, I split the MFD screen showing weather data set on a 30 mile radius so I can see all the weather around me; the navigation half is zoomed in so I can see all the details of the lake. Table Rock in MO twists and winds around so much, it’s nice to be able to see if a weather cell is between where my boat is and where I am wanting to go. The ability to see rain cells that are moving my way has kept me from getting soaked on more than one occasion.
