Is it summer yet? Is it? Is it? Come on, is it? Huh? Huh? Summer? Is it?

(my family is still snow skiing this week, although my season was done in Feb because I tore my ACL - turning 50 sucks)

Mark that sucks man. Now not summer here. 4 or so inches of snow here today.

It’s far from “all clear” here. The Buffalo end of Lake Erie still has a few miles of ice left. A couple nice days and the removal of the boom should take care of that.

She is shining in all her glory there Mark. Is that a stand-on platform on the port side of the trailer near the front? Tool box maybe? Nice touch.

Hoping your ACL heals enough to wake board behind her.

Yeah, storage box. For ball hitch, ropes, wheel chock, etc. Super convenient.

I tore my ACL, PCL, meniscus in 2012 on a cat ski trip in Nelson BC at age 46. I had surgery in early April and went with the donor graft option. I recovered quickly enough to do a 50 mile bike ride 7 weeks after surgery and a couple 100 milers that summer. Let me know if you have any questions!

MnLakeBum, that's a crazy fast recovery! I refuse to give up next ski season, so I'll be working hard on rehab over the summer and fall.

Mark, Hope you heal quickly. It is amazing how much our bodies begin to rebel after 50 - must be all that stupid stuff we did in our 20's and 30's. Sunny and mid-70's here in Atlanta. I knew there was a reason I moved south. If it weren't for the rain this weekend I would put the toys in the water. Just got a new dock to keep them on.

MnLakeBum, that's a crazy fast recovery! I refuse to give up next ski season, so I'll be working hard on rehab over the summer and fall.

I skied 40 days the next winter. Surgery was mid April and I skied at Christmas. I definitely didn’t fully trust the knee and wasn’t hucking of any cliffs that first winter back but I actually got a two day heli ski trip in the Ruby mountains in Nevada exactly 12 months after the injury. I’d highly recommend getting yourself a stationary bike or a trainer if you already have a bike. I started on the trainer just a couple days after surgery and was doing two 30 minutes sessions almost immediately. A ice machine that recirculates the ice water through the wrap around your knee is a must as well. You’ll be using it every day for a couple months.

I tore my ACL & meniscus in 1999. I highly recommend cooling it a little on skiing, etc so quickly. You need to trust your knee first because you need to protect the meniscus. Think about the long game. Not much can be done if that starts to degenerate.think about the pain free future of chasing kids/grandkids around vs not being comfortably able.

You’ll pay the price with pain in your knee for the rest of your life.

Stationary bike is definitely on my radar - thanks.

Ironically, I have a similar ice machine in my race car the circulates through a shirt to keep me cool in the summer at the track. I'd be stoked if my medical insurance paid for a portable unit for lounging around the paddock between races.

Did you wear a brace when you first hit the slopes again? I am thinking brace and sticking to some easy (blue) groomers for a while until I regain confidence. My surgeon (Stanford Sports Medicine, team physician for the GS Warriors) seems to think it's doable and that confidence is the biggest factor.

I did not wear a brace for skiing or anything else. I had a brace that I was supposed wear the first couple weeks after surgery but that only lasted a couple days. I was just very careful that first month. My surgeon said a brace for skiing would not offer any protection and gives you a false sense of security. I did mostly keep my skis on the snow the first couple months back and didn’t get any big air that season. My surgeon said at my age it’s about 12 months before the ACL is at full strength again and I didn’t real trust it 100% for about 18 months. The second year back on the snow I definitely felt almost completely comfortable doing what ever I wanted other than spinning aerials which caused the injury in the first place.

It’s time!!! I pulled her out of the barn and up to the house. I spent the afternoon checking out all fluids, belts, impeller, etc. Next couple of days will be spent detailing. Plan is to spend Easter Sunday with the family, on the lake! What a great way to reflect on our blessings.
