Gel coat repair and trailer straps.

Post by Dizel8 »

Previous owner did a little damage to boat and I am intending to get it fixed. Got a good deal so okay with the boat concept.

Just trying to get a feel for how it should be done and secondly, as you see from the pictures, how to prevent a repeat of the damage from trailer straps.

Take a look and fire away. Thank you.

Looks like angle is wrong so straps rub. Will have to have trailer altered/extended for straps to not rub on trailer

Yea holy cow ouch. You can run the straps to the swim platform brackets. See if that helps. Some straps has hull protectors on them. They are rubber /plastic. Use something like that. Or buy a new trailer. Change rollers to bunks adjust the trailer so the boat is more forward.

Yes I am surprised that they didn’t use some sort of hull protection on the straps.

As for the trailer, it looks to be in great shape, although I do agree, bunks would be better and it does seem like boat sits a bit far back. Wonder if that is something that can be changed or whether it would require new trailer?

Good news is that the boat will be in the water most of the season, which brings up even more isssues such as bottom paint and mooring cover. Ahhh, it just never ends :)

Can you move the wrench stand forward any?
No it's just starting. That's your needed list. We haven't even started on you yet 😅😅🍿

Looks like they loaded too shallow and the front ate some hardware on that nifty roller stand.

Fix your exposed gel before getting her wet. Sell or modify the trailer to standard 2 bunk.

And what’s this chatter about bottom paint?? Do you have too?

All good advice, thanks. As for bottom paint, fair amount of green stuff in Lake Michigan, particularly if you keep the boat in the water. Still undecided.

Thinking trailer will be converted to bunks and as for the bottom, the two of you may have convinced me.
