New member- New Colbalt Owner almost

Post by Brunosr »

Hello all, I just was looking thru the forum and thought I'd sign up.

Just ordered a new 2019 R7 but won't see it till spring!!

I went out on 4 test drives with the dealer on the R7 and decide I had to have one!!

I am looking forward to reading thru the forum over the next 5 or 6 months while I wait.

Hello everyone!!

I have been in the marine industry for 34 years and have done 99 percent of my boating on the ocean. Never wanted a boat of my own and swore I’d never own one. Well that’s until I meet my lovely lady. She’s spent most of her time on the lakes here in New Hampshire. So reluctantly, we bought a used 2007 19 foot Four Winns 3 years ago. I had to admit getting out of the water with no salt on you, was pretty good!

So, after the first season, we went to a boat show where I ordered a 2017 Four Winns H230. Pretty boat, white bottom, blue hull with a red strip. It has a Volvo 280 horse. Great boat!! Until that one day when we had 6 to 7 foot seas on the lake. No problem, the boat handled it fine but did take a few waves over the bow and hitting me square in the face. She wasn’t happy at all, though I thought it was Kinda funny.

But we decided that we needed a larger boat. Especially when the kids and grandkids come up, which is a lot. We love having them, it’s so fun to watch them enjoying the lake.

So, we were looking at the 2019 Four Winns HD270. I like the dealer we had bought the current Four Winns from so we went back to them. We couldn’t decide H260 or HD270. We went back and forth trying to decide. In the meantime, we have met a lot of great people on the lake. A few of them have Colbalt boats. They loved them and couldn’t speak highly enough about them. One is 12 years old and I thought it were a year or two old. They said that there was a dealer right here on the lake and turns out, it’s less than a ¼ mile from my dock and a place I always purchase fuel from. Though his show room is a few miles from the lake which we drive by coming and going between camp and boat.

We head over to the show room and start looking around and we meet Ryan, great guy. He tells us all the pros and cons, which there wasn’t too many cons, the biggest being price. He suggests we go and take one out for a ride. Never turning down a boat ride, off we go. What a beautiful boat. After three more days and four “test” rides I am hooked. I have to have one!! So, one is on order!

It’s the R7, same colors as my current boat, or should I say the dealers new/used boat, which he isn’t getting till mid October!! Anyway, it has a white hull, red edge and blue hull. We ordered the Volvo 380 and all the bells and whistles but with a bimini instead of an arch. And of course, a camper top for the cool days next October when we are out leaf peeking before the water gets hard.

We, or should I say I, can’t wait!!

Great story! And you will not regret going Cobalt over four winds. Not saying Four Winds are bad boats at all. I get asked all the time if my 2002 is new. I just laugh and say nope it is old enough to drive a car.

And sounds like you optioned her out nicely. And you should have no issues with wake next summer. The R7 is quite the wake cutter. My boat is about the same size and even on the roughest days on the lake I never take water over the bow.

Congratulations again on your purchase Bruno! We'll be right there with you while you're waiting on delivery. Some of the members here can help coach you on your options, and you still have the opportunity to make changes until its locked down if you need to. Sounds like you have her dialed in though!

What do you do in the marine industry? We have a "What do you do for a living" thread, and it would be great if you contributed there. Its interesting reading through the diversity in the careers we all have or had, with everything from train conductors to airline pilots.

That's a great story BrunoSr. Like Bobo87 said, we so enjoy reading how folks get into their precious Cobalt's. Four Winns makes a nice boat too, although I think you'll enjoy the step up. Great to have your marine industry experience here too! :P
