R5 Roswell Platinum Stereo on 2018

I was discussing with another Cobalt owner who has a R7 with the Roswell platinum stereo offering and he has two subs. My R5 only has one sub installed, the one in the storage compartment. Does anyone else have a R5 with the platinum stereo? Do you have one or two subs? I was under the impression it was supposed to have two, as during the build I called Cobalt and I was told by a customer service rep that it would have two subs. I didn't say anything about it during delivery because my dealer has done so much to help I don't want to be a PITA

Watching this thread. While I have you, do you have a switch in your glove box that controls the bow/stern speakers? My "old" R7 with the premium audio had this. It was super nice feature that allowed you to shutoff the swim platform speakers for night cruises, etc....

No, my 17 220S had the switch for bow/stern speakers and that was the premium audio, but my 18 platinum audio doesn't. You do have 3 zones in the head unit to switch it electronically; however, the switch I felt was much more convenient. I haven't tried it but I saw it within the options on the headunit when scrolling through. I stopped dealer today, and they are going to call Cobalt and ask about the dual sub option. Let you know what I find out.

Thanks. Another question. Do you have two Roswell amps stacked on top of each other?

That’s what I have from the factory. The dealer is adding a third for the (dealer installed) tower speakers.

I will be following this as well as I have the Platinum. My sub is located on the port side in the storage container that has the awesomely designed trash can. My R7 Surf only has 1 sub and I was under the impression it was supposed to have 2 according to the info provided to me below.

The R5 and R7 brochures say the same thing-“Roswell R1 Subwoofers - 2ea Most Models” if you get platinum regardless of whether you get tower speakers.

Sorry this picture is so crude. It was never meant to show detail of the amplifiers....just the storage. I'll get a better shot the next time I'm with the boat. It looks like the same two amps. They likely either bridge the amp and run the two subs in series (or run the subs in stereo).

Interesting to hear you only have 1 as well. Here is a pic of mine. I'd like to figure out who actually is supposed to get the 2. Seems like Cobalt owes us a sub.

Mine is just like cycleman6 I have a 2018 R7 surf and I thought I was supposed to have two subwoofers as well

Thought I'd drop by here even though this is slightly off-topic. I'm unhappy with the output of my subs at "reasonable" volumes. If you put the power to it, the system sounds pretty great (for a boat) but at lower volumes the subs are not being driven enough - can barely hear them.

In my days of car audio (waaaay back), we'd simply drive the amp higher (head unit gain adjustment) or drive the subs harder by increasing the gain on the amplifier.

The amplifier has no gain adjustment on it that I can see (still haven't figured out what channel the sub is actually on).

I was able to adjust the sub-level on my '17 R7 but the '19 has a new head unit mounted in the potty. There's no longer a display. When you push the "Sub+" button at the helm, it seems to say it's adjusting one of the zones (Bow, Cockpit, Tower, etc) but not the Subs themselves.

My dealer is contacting Cobalt for me. I've been unable to find any manuals for the 900.6 online. Any thoughts?

Okay, my dealer just called me. He called Cobalt, and confirmed that we (R5, R7) are indeed supposed to have a second sub. The customer service representative walked to the factory floor and confirmed the following information. The second sub is to be mounted in the storage area ahead of the captains helm. He said in the large storage area, where the amps are, is another black box, towards the floor, almost at your feet, and that is where the second sub is mounted. I have already left the lake today, but will be going back down Sunday to climb in to see if I have a second sub there. My dealer said if it's not there, then they'll get me one. So those that have the Platinum sound in the 18' MY, will you check your storage area and see if there is indeed a second sub in there...

Good news, Cyc. Glad to hear it. I will update when I hear about adjustments, etc. May be helpful.

I too have a 2018 R7 with platinum sound and already contacted the dealer a few weeks ago about the lack of bass. I only have 1 sub as well. As tbully wrote, it sounds good at high volumes but unless your cranking it, the bass is almost non-existent.
