Tough market when trying to find a steal on a used boat. When my dealer will give me 90% of what I paid for my 2016 R7 towards a new purchase! Of course the new purchase has been inflated as well. Makes you want to sell " which I won't" and wait for the market to cool?

Honestly if you can go 1 year without a boat now is the time to sell it. Go hitch a ride with a buddy a few times and your set.

Why do you think prices will drop?
Personally I think they will more likely plateau than drop. These increases can't be sustained but I think it may take years for someone to truly regret and sell their purchase.
But honestly really curious what everyone thinks on this, maybe I should have started a new thread.

With all the new boats and boaters buying, There will be newbies that in a few years will say WTF I haven't seen nor used my boat in a couple of seasons and will give up the ship and sell. Also interest rates will rise and some point and start the process of what payments do I want to continue making and thus toy purchases will be the first to make the chopping block. At this point and I have no idea when this will happen but when it does there will be some awesome steals/deals in the used market and thus force the boat dealers to make better deals on new to compete. Just my take but hard to pass up when you have a 5 year old boat and can trade only losing 10% of the original purchase price. Uber cheap boating in this environment.

When people begin to travel again and not stay in there same city or state they won't use the boat anymore. Plus they will find out how much work it can be to own a boat. Their will be a bunch of used boats on the market and that alone will push the used market down. Supply and then demand. It's a cycle. How many guys are going to have patience waiting at the launch for the 20 boats ahead of them and no parking spots for the trailer and truck. None!
These next few years are going to be something.

Same for travel trailers and motor homes.

I bought my R7 back in Spring 2018. I've used it three seasons and put about 150 hours on it and I could sell it today for a $20k profit. There will definitely be a correction at some point. I've been thinking this all year actually. A year or two from now lots of people will grow tired of the cost and maintenance. I firmly believe this is COVID related. People who were sitting on some money (or weren't) needed something to do. Boating, as WE all know, is a fantastic past time but these folks I'm talking about didn't prioritize it before COVID and doubt they will post COVID. As the world reopens kids sports will get back to their frenzied pace further limiting time to spend on the water. Keep your powder dry boys and ladies. This year was a record year......the fact that it happened THIS year with COVID is not a coincidence IMO.

Unless I'm mistaken and lots more of these people embrace the lifestyle long term......but I'm guessing they wont.

100% no doubt it’s COVID related. Time will tell what happens with the boating/recreation markets. I admit I’m truly fascinated by it.

There is a trade coming in soon that I have my eye on and was talking to the dealer this week. He is expecting a repeat of last year. Maybe worse. Basically begging for inventory.

As for whether or not new boaters stay. I’d say some will, some won’t. But some new “COVID boaters” I met towards the end of the last season said they wanted to try out boating and now they are looking to upgrade after falling in love with boating. So I think there might be some COVID year 2 upgrade demands adding a little fuel to keep the market hot. I’m already starting to see some Cobalts that sold last year on marketplace being listed again for newer and bigger Cobalts. I’d imagine that is taking place with other brands as well.

Last year the fathers thank God had supply and got more supply. This year they don't have that. So the used market might even get crazier.. I might let mine go we will see?

Personally I think there was rather large inflation last year that will continue into 2021.
I wouldn't be surprised if boat prices never go back down but the value of the dollar does.
All this stimulus is just increasing the money supply at a time of decreasing output.

Agree on the COVID related part. We traded up to an A28 last year and there definitely was fewer used boats available. I do think in the next year or 2 some people that either traded up or bought their first boat will lose interest, but it may take awhile.

Buying a boat with a loan and being able to afford keeping one are totally different. Cant get a loan for maintenance, storage, insurance, fuel, etc. Plus the kids will be back in soccer. My two cents...sell now.
