2020 R5 - Fuel Usage Gages

Post by 1stTimeCobalt »

Question. I am new to Cobalt with the R5 (Volvo Penta V8-300) that has 2 Garmin 7607 GPSmap screens for navigation and engine indicators. I am trying to have the system report gals/hr or fuel usage as that is one of the reporting points on the engine display. I have entered the fuel on board and no luck in having the system display the fuel utilization. Is this possible with the R5?

I just went through trying to adjust my gages on the right screen, so I'll try to help. I think mine are 7607 also. Boat is at lake so I'm going from memory.

There is a way to change your screen. Touch and hold finger one one gage that you might want to change.
A menu pops up asking if you want to change the data. Hit yes or touch the change data on screen.
A list will populate with all kinds of options. Go through it until you find the desired reading you want.
I'm pretty sure I saw something that would show gals/hr. It should be an option on both the gage type readings, and the display type readings.

Note there are three different screens that you can change. I played around with it until was able to set exactly what I wanted.
The thing that I had a problem with: on the menu if you see an arrow at the bottom center, that means there are more options not listed. I kept trying to hit that arrow to see the other options and couldn't get it to work. The key is to swipe up or down on the screen, kind of like you do on your phone when wanting to go to the next picture.

Once I saw how everything works, I was really impressed. I learned to change screens quickly. There is even one screen that has four quadrants, with really BIG lettering, that you can set how you want. I like that because I don't need reading glasses to see my most important gage for me, which is depth.

Good luck and welcome to Cobalt familyl.

Although you can configure the panel to display fuel flow I believe you need the VP Trip Computer package in-order to provide the data to the panel.

Do you know where or how to get the trip computer option? I haven't been able to find anyone who knows.

My understanding as well. Disappointing that we can’t get gallons per hour reported right out of the gate from the factory. there is another thread on here somewhere that talks more about this. May take some searching but its here. Try searching Gallons per Hour or something.

You need to go directly to VP. This will allow you to display the info on the small VP display. I would get confirmation from VP that this information is shared on the NMEA bus inorder for the glass panel to access the data. The VP EVC has a lot of data that it does not share to the glass panel so confirm that it does before making the purchase.
