How bad is it? Can you add a type of sound deadening material around it to quiet it down?

Its an annoying sound whenever I turn the wheel thats all. Nobody else but me has complained about it but they are not the one’s driving I guess.
I will get use to the noise now that I know its normal.
I will look though if I can put some sou d deadening material. Thanks for the idea.

I have not been under the helm on a newer boat but do they still use steering cables? If they do this may be an issue were the cable is a bent a little too far or sandwiched little tight some where in the boat and that allows the vibrations to travel up the cable. You can check this by tugging on it to see if it feels overly tight anywhere along its run.
