Soft sided coolers for R7 surf

My R7 surf is at the lake. I am going to measure the coolers and see what I can find to put in them. They are really not v good. I have one cooler on the starboard side behind captains chair and one under the passenger seat we have never even tried. Anyone know if the passenger seat cooler is better than the one behind captains seat? Anyone already measure and find something that fits in these?

On our R3, ice in the passenger seat cooler will last all day.* We bring a scoop to get the excess ice out at the end of the day. If the R7 Surf has the same triangular shaped cooler we have behind the captain's chair, I think it may not be insulated as well. Ice didn't last long....we use it for storage.




* We did have a few days with so many people, so many drinks, so many times it was opened, that we had to add ice.

The ice packs are important as they keep the water very cold as the ice melts and then keeps the ice from melting too fast.

That's interesting. We might try that as that is the least popular place on the boat to sit and easiest to get to.

This is for other coolers and depending on the size of them I like to freeze a quart or two of water in old ice-cream pails and throw in the cooler along with a bag of regular ice. Making ice in the pails gives a round thin disk that is easy enough to remove from the pail and also will fit between the beverage cans nicely when it is vertical.

We have the soft sided Yeti that just barely fits in our R7Surf cooler. It's a pain in the A$$ to pull in/out so we can squeeze it in but usually just bring it along and use the cooler under the seat for storage.

We have a soft sided Rtic 40, and I was given an Rtic 30 from work. I was also given a hard sided Rtic 45, that thing will keep ice forever but it is a hard sided cooler. The 30 & the 40 are great for the boat, they either site out or we drop them in the head. We sold our Yeti soft sided cover because it was so harder to get anything in or out of. I highly recommend the Rtic brand. High quality, great price and they ship fast.

It actually is insulated, at lease on my R7. To verify on yours, you can take the sub woofer off behind the helm and look back at it.

We've been using this one for a couple of weeks and it's small enough that we can also throw ropes and shoes into the "cooler area" on the starboard side of the boat along with the backpack cooler. It only has a 15 can capacity though so you may need something larger, but it's perfect for us.

Hard to see, it is blue because it is night time and that is internal led.
But filled the cooler at 9:45am, approx case of beer, some water, 3 ice packs and approx 20lb of ice. I do have a Uline oven maker that makes pretty cold ice. Not sure how much that matters. Also drinks all started out refrigerated Wich I know makes a difference.
Still had ice at night approx 12 hours later.

And you still got beer?
I saw two different post from dealers selling R3's on Youtube.
First I saw said the one behind helm was not insulated, which fits my thoughts on how quickly the ice melted.
Second, which happened to be Jake from Futrell Marine, my salesman, said it was insulated...I think he's wrong.
Could be there's more room on the bigger R's and they might be insulated.

We just bring on a marine soft sided cooler from Igloo. Sits underneath the table and no one has to get up for a drink.

We store lines there too. Plus shoes and spare waters.
I leave Igloo on the dock with tomorrows beverages in it and not stolen yet. Or is that yeti?

Fits perfectly under the passenger seat in the R3. Plus it's nice to be able to load the cooler before getting to the boat and drop the whole unit in.

It worked well in 90 dgree heat over the weekend, plus 26,000 reviews can't be completely wrong.
