R6 Impressions
Re: R6 Impressions
I like the colour. I almost bought a black hull, white bootstripe, red bottom R3 but was worried about colour“blooming” on the bottom as I also wet slip my boat. So I did black, red with a white bottom. I think even if yours “blooms”, with the darker colour bottom you probably won’t notice it.

Re: R6 Impressions
“Bloom” - where the colour bleeds out of the gel coat because it has been left in the water too long. Cobalt warns against wet slipping boats with coloured hull bottoms and says the fading or colour change is not covered by the hull warranty. As I wrote, perhaps the darker hull bottom colours aren’t affected as much, or at least it isn’t as noticeable.

Re: R6 Impressions
Well 20/20 hindsight....I’m sure regretting not buying the R5 Surf in February. I’m being told the R6 Surf we ordered March 3rd will be lucky to arrive by November.
These are certainly wacky times. Anybody have recent communications with cobalt or dealers about different lead times? Better or worse?
Those fortunate to have received theirs keep your reviews and tips flowing. Great stuff!

Re: R6 Impressions
I ordered an R8 surf in December with an original delivery date of April. I had a 2020 R5 Surf that I sold in December assuming the new boat would be here by the beginning of the summer - totally regret selling the R5 surf early. R8 surf build was finally suppose to start last week but I have no idea if it has or not.bcv_23 wrote: Mon Jun 14, 2021 8:55 am Well 20/20 hindsight....I’m sure regretting not buying the R5 Surf in February. I cant get anyone at Cobalt to answer their phone, return a phone after I leave a message, or return an email. I speak with my dealership salesperson as now he has time on his hands with no boats to sell. He tells me that guys are calling into Cobalt and getting better responses on delivery than his dealership does. This doesn't sit very well with me. We are relatively young boat buyers with many left to buy in our lifetime - I highly doubt with the lack of response or care we have been getting in general that cobalt will be on the list next time around.bcv_23 wrote: Mon Jun 14, 2021 8:55 am Anybody have recent communications with cobalt or dealers about different lead times? I hear you on this. But this is not normal times and every manufacturer is having some kind of issue right now.dustinm wrote: Thu Jun 17, 2021 9:46 amI cant get anyone at Cobalt to answer their phone, return a phone after I leave a message, or return an email. Honestly to me is your dealer that should be doing this not you and not the factory. I don't call GM up and say where is my suburban.
You get what I'm saying.
I wouldn't Say I'm buying a Bayliner now because of this. It's still one of the best boats made and I wouldn't sacrifice that because of the times we are in. I get it. It sucks not knowing but. Wait its coming. We have room on ours so we will give you a ride at trl. I still love you

Cobalt should funnel all calls thru the dealers then. Thats who I was calling. Cobalt is also moving away from their tried and true designs into a the same market their parent company is in. If they maintain this course I would rather have a Formula next.Big Block Power wrote: Thu Jun 17, 2021 12:32 pmI hear you on this. Yes that's a great brand. Go on their forum and listen to what those guys are saying right now.dustinm wrote: Thu Jun 17, 2021 3:04 pmCobalt should funnel all calls thru the dealers then. She is a beaut! See you got the platinum sound. How's it? Same system as the R3? Any thoughts you can share? Bass?J9lake wrote: Sun May 16, 2021 12:15 am Ride is better. Rock solid. Takes any chop far better. Speed is definitely more noticeable.

Re: R6 Impressions
My dealer took care of talking to Cobalt. He has relationships with folks who work there from years of buying boats from them. Thus getting some info or pull. Ill admit info was sporadic at times and nothing was for sure.dustinm wrote: Thu Jun 17, 2021 9:46 amI cant get anyone at Cobalt to answer their phone, return a phone after I leave a message, or return an email. Thought- would imagine you negotiated a price with the dealership back when you placed the order and gave the deposit. Going to assume that price is MUCH better than any price you could negotiate today? Thus wonder if some dealerships are hoping people back out due to the wait. Then sell the boat when it comes in at much higher price. After all they can't get more to sell quick enough. My dealership said they can't even do a boat show this year; no boats.
Hope you can get info soon. Stay strong.
