Cobalt 212

I am set to purchase a 2007 cobalt 212 next week and had a couple of questions. I don't see much out there on the web regarding this short-lived model, and Im buying it sight-unseen, so any help from this forum would be appreciated:

* Did cobalt make filler cushions for the walk through and the bow for this model? If so, any idea on where to purchase?
* Is anyone aware of the dimensions of the back sunpad. My wife likes to lay on the back and she is worried about it being big enough for a person to actually lay on. It looks kind of small so I was a little concerned she might be disappointed...ha
* Any other tips for this model? If you have owned one do you like it??

any feedback would be much appreciated as I am getting a little buyers anxiety since I haven't been able to see it in person yet...ha

sidenote, my current boat is a 2003 chaparral 220ssi, which we have enjoyed. But I hoping the Cobalt will feel like a nice upgrade even though its the same size. The cobalt will have the V-8 and low hours (200). Im assuming it will ride much better and feel nicer...(hoping, ha)

Hey Birdanski…welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!

The 212 is a nice model that will serve you well. Your wife will be able to lay on the sun pad although her legs will most likely hang off the pad when lying length wise.

Filler cushions are a unicorn item….for any model Cobalt.

Let’s see a pic of your Chapp. Yes the Cobalt fit and finish in addition to the ride will be nicer

Buying sight unseen?….yikes. Be careful. Hopefully someone looked it over for you. Let us know how it works out.

I posted a pic of my current boat....its a 2004 220ssi w 700 hours (3,600 lbs)...with the extended swim platform and the 270HP volvo penta. The cobalt I am buying is a 2007 with 250 hours and the volvo penta V-8. So im guessing the cobalt will have a higher top speed w the DP and the V-8. Im a bit worried about that that back sunpad because the chaparral had a big area to lay on in the back...and that cobalt one looks smaller. My wife likes to lay on the back and look back out over the swimplatform. So looking at the pics it looks like she could lay with her head on the back seat cushion and then just dangle her legs over the swim platform. The pressure is on because that is the only feature she cares about...haha.

I am buying "sight unseen" butttt I am able to drive it at the landing so if for some reason its completely not what I am expecting I can still back out.

Its just a hard market to buy a used boat in these days, no inventory to really choose from. Im sure Im overpaying a bit, but its just kind of the environment right now

This market is crazy. I'm seeing boats with less options and a much smaller engine then mine listed for 42k.
So it's a good price if your willing to pay for it.
5.0 or 5.7?
I know a person just sold his 220ssi for 23k in a day.

Thanks for the info, very helpful! It is the 5.7 on the boat I am getting. Yea, I am kicking myself on my 220ssi....I agreed to $15k a few months ago and now that's underpriced. That being said my current Chaparral has some hull scratches, ripped bow covers, a potential gear shift box issues and no trailer. So it has a few issues. But I still feel like I potentially left $4-$5k on the table...argh. So Im hoping Im not turning around then overpaying buy a bunch for the Cobalt..haha.

Nice then why don't you get a 220? you can have all of that. You can have a upholstery shop Make each of the filler cushions though. I had one made for the bow.
You do have a spot for where it will sit in the bow. It's just like mine. Now the rear walk through I saw the ledge it would sit on and on the engine cover I saw 2 slots where it would slide in also. So you maybe able to get one for that also.

The 220 layout I was referring to was my current Chaparral.....unfortunately, I haven't seen any Cobalt 220s or 232s available in our market all winter. The 212 I am getting is the only one in that range I have seen in a long time for sale. Im just hoping the 212 feels like a nice upgrade ($19,000 difference) over the Chaparral 220ssi I just sold, ha. My rational is the Cobalt im getting has 400 less hours, is 4 years newer, the interior is in great condition and its a cobalt.

Im feeling buyers anxiety (haha), but from what I have read on this forum people enjoy the 212 so Im thinking I will love it when I see it/get it next week!

It will be a great boat. It will tend to list to the port side as everyone will sit on that side. It's not a fast boat but it will ride better. It's heavier. Swim platform is great. Can't beat them. Duo prop huge bonus.

I'll say 52 54 GPS. They are just more solid. I went from a crownline 202 to a Cobalt 200 and it was bought and day. That sold me on cobalt. Then we used it on a big vac trip and realized it was just a bit too small for who we boated with so we went up 2 ft and it's a good size for us. You will be happy. What lake in MN are you going to use it on?

52-54 is a few MPH more than my current Chap, so that works. Our current 23ft chap works size-wise for us...so I figured this would as well (they are the same length). Its just generally my wife/I and our son sometimes. So we rarely have more than 4ppl in the boat. 232 or 242 is probably the perfect size/options for us but our current dock situation only allows up to 24feet and I literally haven't seen one 232 available in MN all winter, haha. I almost bought a 232 last spring and then corona hit and that through a wrench in things for me. Been wishing I bought it ever since but it was such a crazy time. We live/boat on Lake Minnetonka, so it can be a little rougher water on weekends. But we generally just lay in the sun anyways in a cove on weekends....so thus why im fretting a bit with the smaller sunpad. But Im sure it will work great! Our family is cautiously excited until we can drive/see it next week when we pick it up (knock on wood)
