Re: CG enforcing kill switch law
I got a ticket about 15 years ago at Lake Martin in Alabama because I didn’t have the kill switch attached to me. The water patrol was watching me with binoculars. So I always attach it and it makes sense if you think about it. I am shocked it isn’t a law everywhere.

Glad to see you are staying safe /w that kill switch attached while drinking a beer and driving around the lake.Kyboater wrote: Mon Mar 29, 2021 3:38 pm I got in the habit of using a kill switch when I started boating 12 yrs ago. I forgot to mention that my wife does all the driving. I just wear the kill switch. It’s a long one. That way I can pull it whenever she does something I don’t like.NautiGirl wrote: Wed Mar 31, 2021 3:13 pmGlad to see you are staying safe /w that kill switch attached while drinking a beer and driving around the lake.Kyboater wrote: Mon Mar 29, 2021 3:38 pm I got in the habit of using a kill switch when I started boating 12 yrs ago. Re: CG enforcing kill switch law
About 7 years ago, a guy who owed a performance boat shop a mile from my house was testing a boat he had worked on and was thrown out of the boat. It took a week before they ever found his body. Really shook up the community. He was about 30 yrs. old.
I used to have all my work done there. He was so good that he worked on the state trooper’s boats down at Dale Hollow. Although I don’t always use mine, it’s really something we all should do. Sorry to be morbid.

Re: CG enforcing kill switch law
We had a situation on our lake that ended badly.
Un-experienced boater rented a pontoon. The steering stuck and apparently the boat was stuck circling. They hit and killed one of their sons. Panicked and didn't think of the kill switch, or even turning the key.
Sad.

Re: CG enforcing kill switch law
So why do you think they used 26' as the cutoff? Is that because the minimum length to have your boat Coast Guard certified is 26? CG certified boats should be exempt from this new law?

Re: CG enforcing kill switch law
So it's a federal law so it looks like it's in place all over.
I just saw this for here.

Only federal waterways, We are not effected. This is why you never see the coast guard on our lake. It's also why you do not have to have flares on your boat.if you head to the bay or lake Michigan then you'll need to follow the new rules .Big Block Power wrote: Wed Apr 07, 2021 6:17 am So it's a federal law so it looks like it's in place all over.

New owner of a 2006 250 bowrider. Anyone know where I can get a replacement for the kill switch lanyard/clip? Prior owner lost the original. Thanks!
