Extreme engine bay heater
Anyone here use the Extreme heater? I am thinking I may buy the 300watt heater to sit in my engine bay while I store the boat, so I can use her earlier in the season and not worry about her freezing. I winterize the boat-but would like to be on the water in April-where we still get some 28 degree evenings here in Indiana. I do wonder if the B3 outdrive would have issues, since it would not get warmed enough? Thoughts? The heater would plug into the wall and sit in the engine bay while stored, and removed when we pull her out of the unheated garage.

In Columbus I usually unwinterize after April 15th. We start getting 70 degree days and usually all is ok. Pre mid month might be issues. I have much more fun boating when I can get in the water

You know if its in a sealed building yes you could probably get away with a heater in the engine compartment. Heat would/should radiate thru the outdrive to prevent total freeze on a 29* night. This would also be much safer with a VP having the fresh water pump in engine compartment vs Merc in outdrive. Would I risk recommending someone else to do this - NO. My luck a polar vortex would come thru and drop below zero and freeze everything.
If I were you I would focus on getting the storage area prepared with heat for next season.

I had one on my 262 and it worked quite well for your exact use case. But I also leave my boat on the lift all winter as table rock only gets down to about 45-48 degrees in the winter. By early spring it’s usually mid 50’s. So I have the warmth of the water to aid in keeping things from freezing.

An 80 watt light bulb will do the same thing for a lot less money.

I get pissed off every time I go to buy light bulbs, never can match whatever existing bulb I have.

Best source for good old fashioned incandescent light bulbs - flea markets. I always find 'em, and I always buy a few.
