Just for kicks. We had the normal "faux teak" pattern on the the last two boats and my wife wanted something different this time.

Really transformed the rear of the boat, looks great! Please, put a big backing plate on that pop up pylon. The shock load you can get through that will pull right through 3/4” fiberglass.

Really transformed the rear of the boat, looks great! Please, put a big backing plate on that pop up pylon. The shock load you can get through that will pull right through 3/4” fiberglass.

Yes sir! I definitely will be. I ordered up aluminum plate that will be going underneath it. I got a section of 1/2" and also 1/4". If I can fit the 1/2" and still have threads left to securer it I'll use that, otherwise the 1/4". It's 6"x12" plate so it should have a good amount of surface area to spread the load. I asked a few local shops what size plating I should be using and they all told me I don't need it, but I agree with you 100%. Better safe than sorry. But what I'm wondering now is whether I should go with a wider plate, maybe 6"x36" or something wide like that to spread the load even more. Any thoughts?

Yes, I was just in Dallas and had to deice after flying an approach to Dallas LUV field down to minimums! It reminded me more of Pittsburgh than the midwest south.

Haha. I wish we had more snow than this. This is the most we have gotten in 25yrs and it only stayed in the ground for one day.

And that tube is 4yrs going strong still hoping to get one more season out of it. It's lasted longer than any other tube that we have had in previous years

The additional width will help if with the side loads, but the 6" dimension is a little concerning. That's only around 1.5-2" of plate from the tow ball to the edge. I don't think it will pull through with it, but you may get stress cracks in the gel coat over time.

Good feedback. I'm going to take another look under there next time I get a chance to see how else it can be reinforced.

This is totally unrelated to boats. But I thought my Cobalt family here would enjoy the video of how my two sons and I surprised my wife today to kick off her 40th birthday day.
