Color choices be driving me crazy!

Post by jasekro »

Hey all - I have a '21 R3 on order and am thinking of changing up the colors. Would love your thoughts/advice.

#1 below is as-ordered (shale, black hull, frost gray stripe). Canvas will be black and interior will be gray. I want to get away from the black hull.

#2 (bayside blue, white hull, black stripe) and #3 (shale, white hull, black stripe) are the versions I'm thinking of changing to.

All thoughts/suggestions welcomed! Thanks!

partial to number 2.. no reason, just like the color.
think you are right to go with a white hull.

I like #1 because I like black hull bottoms.

Will it be kept on a trailer, lift or wet slipped? The only reason I ask is that I believe that Cobalt doesn’t recommend to wet slip a colored hull bottom. Many do wet slip colored hulls but I think it has to do with color fastness but I’m not positive. I am also not sure about how colored hull bottoms show scratches from beaching and trailer bunks.

Hey jasekro. Welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!

Like you, I'm not a fan of black hull bottoms. They tend to show their age quickly.

I think the number two pic has a classier look while number three appears just a bit meaner.

Is this your first Cobalt?

Again, welcome aboard mate!

I currently own a R5 that has a black hull and even though I keep it on a lift it does require a lot of work (Hot Sauce) to keep the water spots off.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. This will be my second Cobalt in as many years. We picked up a COVID boat last spring -- a 2020 200S that was in inventory. It was our first boat purchase after renting many times, and was in an anticipation of a lot of family time given summer camp closures and the like. I'd been looking for something a little bigger, but the slip we rented for the summer wouldn't accommodate more than 20'. We loved it and got great use out of it. When fall rolled around, we were fortunate enough to be able to secure a covered slip with a little more room., and when I checked in with my sales guy, he made me an offer on the trade that felt pretty good. So I ended up placing my R3 order, and now I am not-so-patiently waiting!

So, it'll be in a wet slip.

And I still can't decide on color!

The more I look the more I like #3. I’m sure that I am no help! I am glad I took a stock R5 that had an awesome price to go along with it. That way I didn’t have to choose from so many colors!

I’m with Aslan - #2 is my favorite and looks pretty classy, but #3 is sharp too and and feels a little younger/sportier.
