Flash VP240 to 280?

Post by Mmurphy88 »

Does anyone know if it’s possible to flash the VP240 to 280? It’s an identical engine and have heard rumors that it’s possible. I have a CS22 with 240 and I’m impressed with it. Tops at 47mph but wouldn’t mind a couple more. Thanks.

We can only hope. Yes it's possible just No one has been able to Crack it yet. It will happen some day. If it was merc it would be available already. 😂

Yes and there are a lot of 380 wanting to become a 430. We get the picture.

I read that you can flash a VP240 to produce 350hp.

BB it’s true. Dinan Engineering makes a ECU add on. They are famous for BMW tuning.

.

Can you provide the link showing a Volvo Penta ECU tune that produces this massive amount of horsepower gain (110 hp) you’re talking about BR99?
That would be a new breakthrough in engine tuning technology using just an ECU reprogram that’s for sure.

We had a Stage 3 Dinan ECU tune done to our E39 M5 which included the MAF tune and Dinan exhaust. Not cheap. Performance gain was WAY under what you mentioned above and it was more than just a tune.

A greater horsepower gain by comparison using an ECU tune may be possible with forced induction motors of which VP is not.
The vid below shows Steve Dinan doing tunes on turbocharged BMW’s altering boost pressures with all the variables that will also need changed.

ECU tunes alone will just not net you massive HP gains. ....unless you want to remove the restriction that detunes the VP 430 to 380 hp. 😂. You’ll be a rich man if you figure out that business.

Those E39 M5s were some of the best cars BMW ever made.

As for tuning, some engines are simply the ecu, while others require throttle body, injectors, cams, etc. to make the higher numbers. My V8-225 is exactly the same engine mechanically as the V8-300, for example, but would need parts other than an ecu to become a V8-320.

So true John. Really enjoyed that machine.

.....and it’s still my favorite car commercial. I’ve posted it here before but I just never get tired of watching it. Maybe it’s the pilot in me. :)
(or maybe this one had the ECU tune BR99 mentions ;) )...

I’m joking, of course. :) To the OP, if you want a 280, maybe just buy a boat with one? Then if it breaks, it’s Volvo’s problem, not yours.

Most big ECU gains come on turbo cars. With these engines being direct injection I am sure you can get something decent but you need a turbo. APR does some awesome ECU upgrades for Porsche, Audi, Lambo, VW.

The difference with boats is that manufacturers intentionally derate some engines significantly, so simply flashing or replacing the ECU can result in big gains. My 225 becomes a 300 with a simple ECU (no other parts, for a 33% gain in top HP. Not bad for a $1500 ecu, but if someone could crack it and recode them...
