Re: New R5 at Lake Ouachita
Janssens is no longer doing Sunday brunch because of Covid19. But we still go there every Sunday morning and eat off the new menu. Love (ok loce) Larry's hollandaise sauce on the Eggs Benedict. My wife prefers Greers Ferry Lake to Lake Hamiltion, but likes the idea that there's a lot more to do in Hot Springs. We've never boated on Ouchita, but only heard great things. Last weekend, we went to Greers Ferry on Sunday, 3 hour drive, checked into motel, and it rained off and on so much we never took the cover off boat. We had a hard time finding something to occupy our time. Monday was so great, it was worth it. Arkansas is an undiscovered gem to most of the country...except people like me, and Texans.

Re: New R5 at Lake Ouachita
Hot Springs is nice, and yes, there are a lot of things to do on Lake Hamilton, but spend a couple of weekends there on the water. It is almost dangerous it’s so busy. I’d pick Greers Ferry over Hamilton Hands down. But, if my time on the water wasn’t limited to mostly weekends, I might have a different perspective.Krob1114 wrote: Thu Aug 06, 2020 4:57 am Janssens is no longer doing Sunday brunch because of Covid19. One perspective doesn’t change much ..... Happy wife. Happy life.

nice story! I can see myself through this, especially I am crazy about keeping all surfaces clean. I keep my boat cleaner than my car, sometimes I use boat cleaners for hard spots on the car. Believe me, it works

Re: New R5 at Lake Ouachita
I have that same pick from Salt Creek area of GLF.
I'm at work and can't post, but sun was a few minutes lower, and it looks like nuclear bomb.
Before we knew the real name, my wife called it Sundown Alley.
With so many restaurants closed, we pack more food and stay out later, i.e., more sunsets.

Welcome from Oklahoma! That's a nice boat! Suprised to not see any fenders between it and the dock. And it's always awesome to see all those smiles!

The hour before and the hour after sunset are my favorite times to be on the lake and the beach. Things slow and quiet down. Standing knee deep in flooded timber during duck season watching the sun rise while listening for the whistle of ducks’ wings circling is a very close second.

You and I. Cut from the same cloth except I quit duck hunting back in the mid 90’s.Luv2HuntAR wrote: Fri Sep 11, 2020 11:16 pm The hour before and the hour after sunset are my favorite times to be on the lake and the beach. My problem has always been getting my crew up early enough to enjoy the calmness and scenery at dawn.

Re: New R5 at Lake Ouachita
We love Arkansas and make a trip each year to visit fraternity brothers from college.
Hamilton is great but can absolutely get scary. Greers Ferry can get busy but it’s so much bigger it’s not as scary.
I’ve never been on ouachita with a boat. I understand it’s even more rustic and less developed than Greers Ferry. Correct me if wrong.
If GF had a few more restaurants and bars it would be perfect.
I like the cliff jumping too!

Re: New R5 at Lake Ouachita
Lake Hamilton is surrounded by private property and controlled by Entergy; for the most part, Entergy’s controls stops at the water’s edge. Greers Ferry and Lake Ouachita are controlled by the Corp of Engineers. GF is surrounded by mostly private property, but the Corp has a 50’ (I think) easement, from normal pool up the shoreline; no changes to the shoreline within the easement can be made. LO is in the middle of the Ouachita National Forest; private ownership is somewhat limited. Mountain Harbor Marina and Resort are built on land leased from the government. Like probably all lakes, the character of each lake is driven by the ownership of the property surroundings it. They’re all great places.

Re: New R5 at Lake Ouachita
In my spare time, I manage our family farm. We pump-up 1000 acres of green timber just for duck hunting. We even have a lodge on our place. It’s really pathetic, but I’m lucky to duck hunt 2 or 3 days a season these days ... if at all.rabiddawg wrote: Sat Sep 12, 2020 8:07 amYou and I. Re: New R5 at Lake Ouachita
The reason I stopped duck hunting was three fold. I moved away from my training buddies, my lab got old and I leased a property that I duck hunted on but it had plenty of deer too. I started deer hunting and became lazy.

Re: New R5 at Lake Ouachita
We've rented a condo with a slip on Lake Hamilton for next month, and I'm wondering if anyone here might have any suggestions on where to put a big boat in? Bonus points if it has the potential to store my big trailer for ~5 days! Thanks!

Congrats on a gorgeous boat Luv2HuntAR! That first photo with all the smiles is what it is all about for sure. Many, lasting memories with loved ones - away from computers, televisions, etc. and just having fun together. Great stuff!
