But if it doesn’t freeze is there a benefit to draining it? I’m assuming the plug is on the bottom part of the engine? I’m assuming rust would slow down if there was no water..?

All everyone in Texas. They say it doesn't freeze either. But 90%of the cracked blocks come from Texas. If you're asking the question then your a bit worried about it so take the worry out and just drain it. 5 minutes and done.

Ok.. good enough.. I was more concerned frankly about the excessive rust that could build-up if that water stayed in for months and months on end.. I’ll look into it and have to find the drain plug.. I’m assuming I can let it drain into the bilge and go from there..

Still a good idea to put some RV antifreeze in too as it has corrosion inhibitors.

Ok.. I’m getting past what I think is the hard part of the controller redo.. I’ve got the vinyl redo done and everything fits.. I learned a few things along the way as I had a little redo here and there. Here’s the current state of things.. all fitted and ready to mount up the actual controller behind the mounting plate.

Whaddya think of the vinyl? I reused the original wood backing board as it was thinner (3/8”) vs the stuff I got locally (1/2”) which just didn’t quite play well...

And yes, the carpet will remain for another season! Sorry to burst your bubble!!

Ps. On a different note, I acquired 3 jetskis yesterday for $167 each.. older Yamaha Wave Runners.. unknown mechanical condition but they’ll be fun to tinker with!

Ok.. problem Houston again..!! So.. In the manual for the Gen II controller they tell you to use the Red Loctite on the threads of the 8/32 screws that hold the cables on their adjusters within the control box. Ok.. fine.. I do that and install the cables without issue. I go to mount the box on the back of the plastic housing attached to the backer board with the vinyl on it and discover that I routed the shift/throttle cables wrong and need to take them out of one of the cable ties to allow for easier maneuvering.. So, I figure I’ll just unscrew the cables, move them and reattach.. Wrong! One of the screws breaks off in the arm within the control box — for the throttle arm (?) on the bottom of the case. Apparently they scrimped a few pennies on the hardware and got crappy ones. So, I take it to my brother to remove and re-tap the hole. He does that without issue all is good. So, I get it home and need to disassemble the thing to clean the metal shavings out before I put it into use. No problem...

Yes.. problem! There’s a little springie bits at one end of the control box that gets fiddled with by a steel piece of metal that sits in place with grease. It can go on one of three places on the main gear selector that the handle attaches to. When I took it apart I didn’t know all this was hiding beneath. So, some of it popped out before I saw where it was.

So, I got things cleaned up and upon trying to reassemble I can get the bottom control arm moving easy peasy but the upper arm (shifter?) won’t budge.

So, I’m thinking I’ve got something screwed up but what is beyond me.. Unfortunately they did NOT include a parts breakdown diagram for this thing so I’m lost.. Is anyone aware of such a beastie..?? I don’t want to have endless times of taking this thing apart to fiddle with it if there’s some diagram somewhere that will explain exactly how its supposed to go back together for maintenance..

ok.. I got past the above hurdle with a little dicking around and watching a Youtube video showing someone taking theirs apart.. Now the controller is golden and seems to work just fine -- obviously not yet tested but mechanically all the parts are moving.

So.. My next issue is the old boat wiring.. and what needs to connect to the throttle arm.. I've attached a picture of the wires that went into the old controller and were wrapped around something hence their circular nature. Does anyone know what each of these wires goes to or do I need to chase one wire at a time to figure out what it is? If I'd at least know what the 4 wires are (one I'm assuming is the tilt -- maybe that's two??). Anyway, I'm stuck til I have a game plan on moving forward. Here's a few pics for ya..

Yes, I decided for me it was frankly easier to mount the entire unit together on the side panel and then hook the cables up.. All that is now done.

In the below picture I'm not asking for anything regarding the yellow wires as those are the cut-out switch and easily plug into the new setup.. It's the 4 circular wires I'm wondering about..

I guess an alternative is if someone knows generally how the trim function works -- is it a single wire that gets 12V to ground or ?? Same with the trailer feature? I think that's all these are for -- correct? I could try to buzz some of these out and see which are ground, etc.. and see which ones with 12V applied will trigger a pump to run..

ok. I followed the 4 wire bundle through the hidden passages of the boat.. It runs up near the horn on my boat and into a tied up bundle and then I see it loop back around and head to the rear of the boat. Once it gets back there, I lose the black wire which I'll assume is ground but can verify that later, and the other three wires red,green,blue all plugging into a hydraulic pump on the left side of the engine..

Anyone have ideas on how these wires should be hooked up would be greatly appreciated..

Yeah! Thats the weird connector on the right edge of the image.. I'll have to chew on that a bit to figure out how to hook that to the new stuff.. Thanks much!!
