Rockford Fosgate going out?

I’ve had issues with my RF stereo for over a year now. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Speakers go out, display goes out etc. My dealer told me today that he heard that RF might be going out of business. I asked him what that meant for me and if Cobalt would stand behind the product and replace it with another unit if needed and he said he didn’t know. I’m very happy with the boat other than the stereo but expected more for a “premium” upgrade. Has anyone heard something similar?

Yes some guys got new head units and haven't had any problems after that.

Had the same thing with mine. RF had a run of bad units and it seems like cobalt bought most of them. Call the dealer and have them replace the head unit. On an r7 it’s below the floor in the head. Mine has worked perfectly since being replaced early last season

I can’t speak for their speaker’s (no pun intended) but we haven’t had any issues with our PMX-5CAN Head unit or remotes after 2 years of use.

Actually we do have the 10” RF subwoofer. It works well with no issues although it’s probably the limfac of our system.

Our family is a fan of JL Audio for inside boat audio and Wet Sounds for outside boat audio. The exception to that is the RF head and transom units that give us dedicated subwoofer volume buttons for instant adjustments as various tunes are played with varying levels of bass.

As far as RF going out of business, I haven’t heard anything. In fact they just introduced their line of lighted subs a couple of months ago. Press release here

I had the same problem. Dealer replaced head unit, same issue, dealer replaced literally everything else, then went back and replaced the head unit a second time and no problems since.
So second head unit had same problem as the first. I used to have to turn the battery off and back on to get the music working again.
If the problem persists, have them replace the head unit again and again. It is definitely a known issue.

BTW, does the music only cut out while using Bluetooth? What year and model head unit do you have? Our PMX-5CAN was installed in August of 2018.

Will definitely keep an eye out for this.

I ran Bluetooth 90% of the time but it did seem like it only happened when I was running Bluetooth.
I not sure what model year it was, came in the 2019 boat, but I do remember upgrading the firmware and no effect.

I just had my original factory RF unit replaced today. It would always play but at times it locked up and i could not do anything, change volume, skip through playlists, etc. Hope this one lasts.

Mine seems to only do it on Bluetooth as well, though I play music via BT 99% of the time. I’ve had 2 different speakers work intermittently (speakers were replaced and it still happens), and recently only had the subwoofers working (no music from the main speakers). I’m ready to throw this thing in the lake!

Again, sorry to hear that Charron. We played ours all week with no issues yet. Still keeping that eye out though.
