1st Time Boat Owner, had to be a Cobalt

Post by PeteD7 »

Just purchased my first boat, 2001 Cobalt 226 bowrider. I always rented or used friends/ family boat so I have some experience. Picking it up this weekend. I can't wait! It's in great shape, Mercruiser 350 MAG w/450 hrs, needs a little cleaning, but other than that, it is just what I wanted. Just checking out the forum, some awesome information. Any suggestions or advice is welcomed!

Welcome aboard! She should scoot with a 350 mag. Bravo 1 or 3? Forum rules say pics or it didn’t happen!

Hey PD7. Welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!

Sounds like you got a great machine there my friend with a tried and true 350. Where and how will you be using her? Any pics? We can help with suggestions after viewing. I'm guessing stainless cup holders will be your first upgrade being that it's a 2001. How's the trailer?

Again, welcome aboard mate!

Still learning! Not sure if it's a Bravo I or III. What would be the differences? I was able to post a photo though! Thanks

So after a quick Google search I found out the difference. It has a Bravo III

With your 350 mag engine, if your outdrive has two counter-rotating props it’s a Bravo 3 Outdrive. They are great for holeshot at the expense of losing a little top end speed.

Now let’s get some stainless docking lights! Any interior or engine pics?

Thank you! I will be using her mostly in lakes in NH and Maine but will occasionally go to the ocean, inshore. The trailer is in good shape, a little rot on the bottom of the bunks that I will replace next year. Took her out for a sea trial on Tuesday and she ran beautifully. Can't wait to get her home!

Great call on the docking lights! The dealer actually took all his photos off the site when I gave him my deposit and I didn't get any interior/ motor photos yet. I will post when I pick it up. Any suggestions on where to get parts and accessories? Thanks!

Thank you! Nice looking 226! The matching trailer is really sharp. I can't wait to get mine home this weekend and get it cleaned up.
