Servicing retractable dock line unit

Post by chrisjrockwell »

My 2011 A25 came with retractable dock-lines for temporary dockage. They are built into a spring loaded housing in the gunwale. A guest inadvertently pulled the line all the way off the spool by forgetting to tie it to the boat cleat when tying off. I contacted the Denver company EZCleat which manufactured the part but have not heard back. They no longer make the part.

Does anyone know if this is a field serviceable unit? Can the line be reattached and the spring rewound from underneath? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.

That's a bummer. Sorry I can't help but that is a neat option I didn't know they had available.

They may not make that specific model anymore, but it looks like they still offer that type of product, may just need to change out the through hull fitting to the new style.

Try the new double-patented wickedly-cool retractable dock line, MajicLINE, majicline.com, collaboratively designed with NASA Egineers and their funded SATOP Program. Coolest product I’ve ever seen, I have four of them on my cobalt 262, they are awesome. These will solve all your problems and put your easy lines in the dust! A company called Sunrise Beach Innovations carries these.

Nice product. I bet most people don't read the section that it says to tie between boat cleat and dock cleat.

Once you learn how to use them well and exactly how your boat performs, you can better judge when to use the line only on the dock quit, with fenders thrown in, without using the cleat on the boat side, especially in no exams. I pull up on my starboard side to the dock, pull the light out and hit the cleat on the dock while throwing my fender in at the same time. The spring action sucks about right up to the dock with cinders in between boat and dock all the while. You can increase the spring tension, or you can decrease it. The line is rated at 30,000 pound tensile strength, it’s very difficult to cut with a knife or a box cutter, it takes over 500°C to burn it, it does not kink and has a pending radius superior over all other dock lines. The patented loop in the end of the line allows you to last of the line through the loop, giving you the ability to lasso irregularly Shaped talking extremities, even rocks. The line will not wear out.

I'd like one too. I'm lobbying for it to be included in the next big version (4.0) of our forum software. Unfortunately adding a single feature like this as a custom option would cost more than the forum has generated in its six years of existence, so we're somewhat at the mercy of others. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed...
