222 boat plug light

I guess my first post will be on a topic that has half been beat to death I have a 2012 222, and really been wanting to add a drain plug light. Before anyone says to try the search function, I have and can’t seem to find the answer I need. My wiring harness and plugs appear to be under the steering wheel behind the removable panel. The problem I’m having is that my adapters appear to be numbered and not labeled. I don’t have docking lights so I was gonna use that button if possible. So I need all the help I can get at this point. I was gonna get the typhon, but I’m afraid it’s not enough lumens, so I’ll probably get the Diablo unless someone has thoughts otherwise. Not looking for a big light show, just some lighting while driving at night and swimming for kids to enjoy.

BBP has owned the 22 footers and will chime in on the labeled adapters.

We have a drain plug light and it works well for us with the rare night drive we do on Lake Erie. The transom lights will certainly give out more light especially while underway. The drain plug light will work just fine if, like you mentioned, you do not need the big light show back there. The higher lumen one will be the one you want.

I will have to look at those 2 lights. Get what ever you feel you will like. Some work great others well. But I would Make sure which ever one you choose that it doesn't hang below the hull. For the 1 time you hit something and rips it out. Just saying!
I do things very simple with very little effort. So I ran all new wires to mine. Again I have rgb. Lol. I take it you are just going with 1 color.
Actually what I recommend is tapping into the anchor light wiring. That light will be on anyways. Or if you don't want that light on don't stick it on the hole. See easy. Done in 5 minutes.
I haven't looked under the dash of the 222 in awhile. But yes you will have to get to those switches. It shouldn't be that big of a deal. Get pictures for me.
Looking at my pictures you prob have to remove the false wall at the helm from the starboard bow back cushion. Go in through that storage compartment and remove the carpeted piece of wood unless there is a hinged piece there and then you can get at the wiring. My 220 is much easier.

Thanks for the input! Definitely going with just one cover and making sure on clearance. I like the idea of that light on its own switch, but I’m a fan of simple.

I’ll get some pics of the boat and the wiring situation up as soon as possible. Rain in the area has it covered for the day I am afraid.

Removing the false wall in the helm is no big deal, I can pop that out and get some wiring pics tonight or tomorrow.

Don’t wire it to the anchor light. In most states it’s illegal to run with underwater lights on, and though it’s rare for LEOs to stop you for it, having it hard wired to you’re navigational lights may mean a tow vs turning the switch off.

Agreed. We have ours wired to a separate accessory switch.

Just put 1 red one and 1 blue one and your set. And mange sure you make them flash opposite of each other at night.
You have to move if they pull you over for that. Crazy stuff

Pretty much why I’ve never had them, lol. I see some boats out here with them and you see nothing from behind, until it gets up on plane then it burns your eyes like a laser beam.

I went with 3 blue dual transom lights, they are pretty high lux so they definitely throw out some light, but with the water at LOTO, you can barely tell they are on till you are on plane. So I honestly think I've used them maybe 3 or 4 times total? I'd personally throw the money at some quality strips for interior accent lighting

Oh yeah it’s worth it.
Here’s the 7k lumen ( always hook to its own switched 12v with inline ballast).

It’s also offset to sit above the hull and has a drain plug built in.

Some models have changed so call them for the high output offset one.

I think I'm going with a surface mount (Neptune) away from the Outdrive....can't get myself to use anything in the boat drain but the brass boat plug or the oil drain tether. I know this has been discussed before. Plus the edge of the boat drain plate is literally less then a 1/4" from the bottom of the boat... no margin for error. Maybe they'll have a midwinter sale....
