2014 Cobalt 232 Accessory dash switch power question

Post by spen5151 »

Hi everyone, new to the forum.

I own a 2014 Cobalt 232, I am the original owner.

Today I wanted to wire some interior lights to the round accessory switch on the dash of my boat. Just to be clear I’m talking about the round dash switches, I believe there are 6 on all 2014 232, not the momentary toggle switch next to the Nav/stern lights. I have never used this switch and it was never used for anything when the boat was made, so it has always been an open and available switch.

All other switches function whether the boat engine is in off, acc or run mode. Except this switch, this one switch seems to only have power when the engine is running. Can anyone who has this boat or anyone else tell me if this is accurate and should function this way? Seems to be counterintuitive as I would think all accessory switches and plugs would be powered as long as the battery switch is in the on position regardless of the engine ignition switch position.

Thank you for your help.

You can always fix that. Just remove the ign feed wire with a always on power wire.

Thank you, so based on your comment it’s acting as intended?

2nd, I want to do it correctly, so my assumption is I need to pull off of an always on wire harness and change at the circuit breaker panel?

Thank you.

Yep who knows what they intended it for. It could be as simple as Captain’s Call?

Hey S5151. Welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!

Any pics of those switches? I believe it is acting as intended for whatever option required that (which your boat does not have). Could be Captain's call but they are normally toggle switched vs button type.

Feel free to start an intro thread. Is this your first Cobalt? How is she powered?

Again, welcome aboard mate!

Thank you for the information as well. I will change our the wiring to an always on wire at the circuit panel.

The boat is back in storage for the week, so this is the best picture I have of the helm. I drew a red arrow to the switch im referring to.

I will do an intro thread also. Thank you again!

Sorry cannot help, but have a question for you.

Are those the resettable switches? Or do you have circuit breakers/fuses for the switches someplace else? Thanks

They are not resettable, there is a circuit panel under the helm on the left side.
