So, the search begins for a new sea pump and fuel pump. So far it’s looking to be around $1000 all in if I get OEM.

Re: '96 252 454 Magnum performance benchmark
Okay, I channeled my inner BB and found the best deals I could find. It’s aftermarket stuff, but Mercury and I disagree that their pump is worth $770 before shipping. If I was going to drop that coin I’d get the bling Hardin Marine billet pump and pulley...which is exactly what I was going to do but NO, the adult in me said “should probably do one more look see if there’s anything cheaper. Well...damn.
Can’t really justify spending an extra $400 for fun shiny parts now...

Maybe, but that foam obviously was dislodged from where it was supposed to be, and it just collected a bunch of crud behind it so doesn’t seem worth the effort.Big Block Power wrote: Sat May 09, 2020 10:44 am Cool. She's going to run like a dream. Glad you started this project!

Re: '96 252 454 Magnum performance benchmark
So when I was climbing around the bilge I found that my starboard riser was leaking and the bolts look like they came up from the Titanic... Working on picking these up, Gil/Merc manifolds and polished risers, fingers crossed! They came off a big block Bravo Fountain and are already cut down to fit the captains call. They’re the older style with the water rail but I think they’ll still fit. If not Hardin sells the kit to update to the newer single feed.

Re: '96 252 454 Magnum performance benchmark
Trust me, I’ve dealt with far worse, lol. This boat always got the regular impellers and fluid changes but beyond that everything is original 24 year old parts. It’s a labor of loce!

Yea is nice to know what your doing when getting into something like this. It's not too major. Just dirty. Glad you did it and find a bunch of these issues, fuel pump and the clogged lines. That's great. Can't wait to see her run. Can't do much else the weather is terrible here anyways.akorcovelos wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 8:39 pmTrust me, I’ve dealt with far worse, lol. Pretty much. Between snowing and flooding we wouldn’t be boating anyway. I’d rather deal with all this now than July.Big Block Power wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 8:48 pmYea is nice to know what your doing when getting into something like this. It's not too major. Just dirty. Re: '96 252 454 Magnum performance benchmark
Man, miss a day, miss a lot.....
Crusty fuel pump for sure. Glad you saw the cheaper one.
Honestly, I was doing the genuine Merc thing for my first boat. Just to find all the parts are outsourced anyways. So it's just a waste of $$ if you ask me. Coolant hose was stamped China. Idler pulley and bearings for it marked China. Bought the same fuel pump you're looking at from Merc and it was made in Korea.
Surprised your sea water pump didn't have the replaceable SS wear plate. That sucks you need a whole new housing.
Good find on the GIL's. I hear they're a PITA to change spark plugs with, so maybe swap yours out now if they're old.
