How can that possibly not affect torque specs, especially with PTFE in it?

- Mark, inquiring minds, etc.

Great question Mark.
As using oils and silicone sealers drastically change the either “ lack of.. or increased frictions “ you have to be careful what you apply right?

We deal with both blind, and open passages with blocks/ cylinder heads etc.
As most hardware is disposable due to its inability to be re- used ( torque to yield ).

So using certain products as I mentioned can keep you accurate in the final torque process plus keep seaping of oil and water out.

These companies are obviously confident they have found the right blend for accuracy in resistance. ( Science?? Who knows ?)

Here’s what I use at work and on my personal projects.

2nd head didn’t start off so well. 1st screw broke 2 sockets and slipped so had to run to Lowe’s to pick up new craftsman sockets. Huge improvement got it out but I was sweating it the thought of it getting stuck.

Ok so 2nd head is off and same thing burnt out between 4 and 6.

Also I think the water poured in when I pulled the head but I’m getting the heads magnifluxed so we will know if there are any cracks. Headed to shop at 8am to get this started! Thank you all for your help!

Pictures galore!

Just tell her it's better than a messy repair bill. Nice job though.

Thank you. I will keep you posted this week. I am going to take Intake, heads, and exhaust and risers to see if he can clean the intake and exhaust/risers and salvage them?

My fear is if I go to new exhaust and risers it won’t line up with the exhaust pipe and not sure how that can be resolved?

Forgot to copy the earlier thread regarding buying new exhaust manifold and riser.

Looks like the new risers are 11.5” versus mine which is 7.8”.

So I hadn't looked. Are you saying the new part number manifolds are taller. If they are they made that change for a reason. Water inversion. You can get rubber connections that will make it fit in sure. But if the correct part number manifolds are the Dane no big deal bolt them on. I'm with akro on that one. It didn't look great. Plus if that's the side that got hot I wouldn't trust it Again.
Just did a quick search

In thinking it through a little more, ultimate torque is probably a result of friction due to bolt stretch against the threads and so some lubricant may affect things at low torque settings (pre-stretch) but much less at high.

Thanks for the response!

Quick update. Dropped heads at machine shop this morning and he thought they didn’t look too bad. After researching further and subsequent call to AJ at the machine shop I am going to be stopping by first thing in the morning as they are going to take a swing at cleaning the exhaust, Intake and risers as well. Fingers crossed!

Worse case if I reuse the manifold and riser and it runs hot I will order new ones. Question if I use a infrared gun on the risers what should the temp be?

Was watching videos tonight on taking the chatter out of the rockers and lifters. Man there are a million ways to do that.
