They sold a crap-ton of Volts here in CA thanks to the HOV lane sticker they qualified for (which lets you drive solo in the High Occupancy Vehicle aka "carpool" lane).

38 miles is a little low but that was on what 2010 battery technology? The setup of battery powered vehicle with a gas powered engine to recharge seems like a great plan. Beats tracking down then waiting for a super charger station.

The downside is that you always have to haul 600 lbs of motor around for the 10% of time that you need it.
I did the first 16,800 miles in my Volt on 10.8 gallons of gas.

But that 10% of the time you do need it that engine is really handy. Could be super nice in a tesla truck when you are say towing a boat to a lake in the middle of nowhere with no charging stations but plenty of gas stations.

Sure. I'd prefer a plug-in module for the bed, though, so I could take it out when I don't need it. There's been some speculation that Rivian is thinking that way.

It was a great platform that truly allows you to have great electric range 40-50 miles then with a gas generator ( engine that creates electric with no drivetrain output) It would continue on!
Sadly when GM restructuring took place a couple years ago the Volt and Cruze said their good byes.
GM is making room for the next generation all electric vehicles they said. Ok we liked the Volt and Cadillac ELR. Damn sexy In candied red.

The irony is that a majority of older Volts are being used in gas for generator electric propulsion. The consumer hasn’t grasped that even batteries need replacement after 10 years.

Seriously, though, the reality is that electric cars will last a long time as there's comparatively little to go wrong. So the occasional battery pack swap will keep them running for a long, long time.

Yes I remember. We may see the next wave of Batteries obviously more competitive due to EV popularity.
They do offer separate packs of the batteries in the event only 1-2 are bad . But shelf life usually says do them all after 8 years.
I was more disappointed in the poor resale value?!
Geeze one more reason GM is going a different direction.
