Oil Drain Hose

I change my oil for the first time myself. I used a pump to raw the oil up the dipstick. My engine has a hose connected to the oil pan that is tied up to the back of the engine that I can route down and out the bilge drain hole to drain the oil that way. I've talked to A7 and he has the same hose. I tried to see how to fish this hose down under and out, but it looks tricky. Has anyone fished this house down and out and use it for draining your oil? Any tricks of the trade? Seem way easier to drain the oil that the dipstick pump method.

As the original thinking was the drain hose attached with a metal teather.
You simply removed your drain plug and the chain attached pulled it through for draining.

Yes once broken the hose can’t be pulled through. As your drain plug with the metal eyelet has probably been changed.

I like the drain tube idea. I had one on my 3.0 in my first boat and it was great. keeps all the mess outside of the boat. the dip stick tube sucker is a great method too, but you have to get inside the boat and risk getting oil on the interior (at least for me since im not always careful)

Good point cmattj. I know mine was detached so that the underwater drain plug light could be wired into the LED/drain plug combo. This has a side affect of preventing the drain tube from being used outside the boat through the drain hole.


When changing oil I just keep the pump outside the boat on the step ladder. Not really too difficult although I do have to stop after 5 quarts...drain the pump...and then start again to get the remaining quarts.

BBP, you should have seen the pump I bought to pull it up the dipstick. I got it off of Amazon for like $50, no where in the description did it say it takes 40 strokes per gallon. The 496 holds 9 quarts! I sent that sucker back to Amazon!

I really want to try an route the drain hose out the bilge drain hole, but the damn bilge pump looks like it might be in the way and it's hard to see under there! I might have to send my 4 year old under there to route the hose around the bilge pump and out the drain plug. Hope he doesn't get stuck!

Go with the Moeller S33. I pump it maybe 10-15 times and the vacuum is created. It will suck a quart of oil out faster than Cmattj sucks down a lemonade.

Go with the Moeller S33. I pump it maybe 10-15 times and the vacuum is created. It will suck a quart of oil out faster than Cmattj sucks down a lemonade.

good luck! its extremely tight with the big blocks. my 3.0 had a swivel on it so you could swing it around. made it a little easier. it was also chained to the drain plug tho.

Personally, I wish Cobalt would've routed the hose to the drain when they installed the engine and bilge pump plate. I would why they didn't.
