Re: What boat? New to the forum.
American Boating center is in Knoxville...has a 2007 222... We looked at it when they just listed it at 35k...its been reduced to 26k now... If you don't mind detailing and fixing some fiberglass you could get a deal.
We upgraded to the 222 this year and love it... Great boat to lounge and still pull a skier or tuber.

There are several dealerships here locally that service both. I'm going to try and look at a few boats before I totally make up my mind.

IMO. Volvo. I've owned both Merc and Volvo and I've had less issues with the Volvo. None actually. Again- just my super humble opine.

Could be salt water? I didn't see fresh water but I could be wrong. It's got some nice options.liquid wrote: Tue Aug 08, 2017 8:50 pm IMO. Volvo. I've owned both Merc and Volvo and I've had less issues with the Volvo. None actually. Again- just my super humble opine.

Hmmmm. Could be right. Lakes close but salt is reasonably close as well. No indication. Pass.Big Block Power wrote: Tue Aug 08, 2017 9:14 pmCould be salt water? Hi Nealcj8 from South AL. Did my early boating there on the river. This group will help you search, shop, spend, trailer/ship, upgrade, repair, add-on, eat, drink and help with your dog! Also if you need a ride or just want to check a Cobalt out thoroughly I'm just down the road at the gulf. Good luck in the search! Your starting your search at the right time!

Re: What boat? New to the forum.
We were in Knoxville about three months ago and did take the opportunity to stop by and take a look. The American Boating Center is brokering the sale for a private party. Based on the condition of the boat, it appears the seller decided to get out of the boating game pretty quickly. There was trash in several of the compartments, things like empty wine bottles, couple beer cans, etc etc. Couple ski jackets and inflatables still in the boat, you get the idea. Not sure if they had some financial troubles and just had to let her go or what. Still had the 2016 winterization tag on the steering wheel so looks like it was at least put away correctly and they just didn't get it out this season.Big Block Power wrote: Tue Aug 08, 2017 10:09 pmHave you seen this boat? As far as the condition of the boat, it was pretty easy to walk away at 35,900 which was the original ask, at 25,900 it would be a more difficult decision. You could tell the previous owners were either new to boating, or just didn't spend the time to take care of her, but either way it was nothing a ton of Boat Bling and some fiberglass work wouldn't fix. Lot of dirt on the seats, but no tears or anything serious. Most notable thing we saw was several pretty good gouges in the fiberglass. Looks like someone had some trouble hitting things with the bow, like I said perhaps new boaters. There was a stress crack or two as well in the fiberglass, not sure if that was from hitting something or what.
Pretty standard optioned boat, Volvo 5.7, grey interior, no premium sound, just a basic 222. We decided it wasn't the boat for us pretty quickly so I didn't dig too much into the engine compartment, but the boating center did claim they had done a compression test and it came back good. It was sitting on the trailer a bit differently than other 222's I have seen including ours. Didn't look like the trailer was long enough which caused more of the back of the boat to sit off the bunks. Could just be my eyes tricking me, but I think the sales guy mentioned something about it as well.
So cliff notes, with a weekend or two of detailing and some fiberglass work you could walk away with a pretty nice Cobalt for 25k. Not a terrible deal at all.

Re: What boat? New to the forum.
Trashed out like that it sounds like a repo, but you never know. Still, it's hard for me to wrap my head around someone that has either a boat or a car/truck and tears it up for no reason other than stupidity. Maybe they financed the boat with no intention of ever making a payment?
The other day pulled into a hotel parking lot and a 20 something kid was setting on the roof of a late model car. The trunk was already smashed too. I'm sure he thought he looked cool setting up there smoking his little thin "ceegar" but all I could think of was how I raised my kids to NEVER sit on a car unless it was in a seat. I laughed after I realized I literally had an urge to walk over and knock him off!
Now that my kids are older, I have no problem with either of them borrowing one of my vehicles or using the lake house.
Although I'm not quite ready to let them take my boat out...

Re: What boat? New to the forum.
I like Volvo slightly better, but wouldn't let that be a deal breaker on an otherwise nice boat if I were looking used. I also like the dual-prop drives (especially if you're going to tow), but those aren't all that easy to find on older, smaller boats.
