Engine Temp Gauge on 5.0 Volvo

Post by jablon10 »

My engine isn't overheating or anything, but the temp gauge doesn't register anything, until it does. Is this common? Yesterday it started out dead and after 45 minutes or so I noticed it was working. I just bought this boat and knew this gauge had an issue. A few weeks ago on the test drive with the previous owner it did the opposite. It started out working and then stopped after we were out for a while. Any ideas what could be going on?

Not working.

With no overheating alarms I’m guessing it’s a faria gauge getting tired. Which is possibly a good thing right?
Loosen then re tighten your gauge connections , and the same with the engine temp sensor.
You would have to multi meter or ground the gauge to check for sweep during the failure.
Faria does a repair service but that gauge may be findable with a part number search.

Tap on the guage glass and see if it comes back to life. It's easy to diag once you find the sensor.
