Would a proper 'steering wheel puller' tool help? They're not expensive. Heck, it could be added to the Cobalt Chat community tool shed!

It's really wasn't that bad - it just takes more force than you would think. Once I mann'ed up and hit it like I meant it the wheel popped off.

Katie pulling on it also most likely helped, but I like to think it was my brute strength that got it off.

Get it for the thrill and the challenge of trying to get it installed. Took Katie, me, a hammer, and a frantic text to BBP to get ours on.

I don't like that. My wheel is currently perfect. If it rattled or had a little give I'd probably jump off a bridge.

I had the same concerns, I was hitting our steering shaft /w a hammer while thinking "Jesus I am going to break something while trying to take off a perfectly good steering wheel, I am an idiot." In the end the upgrade is worth it the new one looks great on the boat.

If your 190 is anything like Katie's the clips that hold the center cover on are going to eventually break. When that happens you will have to zip tie the center cover to the wheel. The greatest boat ever made deserves better. Order it up.

The 2002 model has this wheel. It's basically the greatest steering wheel of all time.

That's the one I upgraded to, and I agree it's beautiful and fits the boat perfectly. Mine doesn't have the chrome center though, that looks sharp.

The swap is really not that bad. Mine did not need a massive hammer blow to free. More like smaller "medium" strength taps while pulling on the wheel. Only took about 4-5 hits on the shaft head and it was free. Not long enough for me to rethink the swap. Once it was free the new one was installed and done in 2-3 minutes. Took me longer to figure out how to get the center wheel cover off to access the shaft bolt.

That's the one I upgraded to, and I agree it's beautiful and fits the boat perfectly. Mine doesn't have the chrome center though, that looks sharp.
