Are you getting no reading or no movement of the drive?
The trim sender on the outdrive is communicating with the gauge. Unless the shop that did your trim rams found something different?

You have a merc throttle paired to a VP engine?

Yea it seems that way. Not sure how the cables all fit on it. Are they the same ends?

no idea, but I know the throttle assemblies are totally different so I assume the cable ends would be different. Never heard of such a thing. If it's true my buddy would love to switch to the Merc controls as his VP controls have fallen apart twice, once causing his boat to go full throttle into a sea wall.

My ‘95 220 has the exact same setup and has completely befuddled a few shops around me.

Mercrusier 3000 series works on Volvo, Omc, merc and probably Briggs and Stratton.. kidding on that one..
I’m sure the ends have different adapters to shift and throttle at engine. But I’m sure all other commands are universal ( trailer , trim etc) so the gauge isn’t a shifter issue.
By the way those are notorious for teather switch failures ( over board red switch) that creates a sudden loss of 12volts to coil after warm.
I’ve bypassed a couple

You may have to look at the existing cables as there are usually marked every few feet with the part number holding the length value. ( ie 14/16 etc. all riggings can be different. If your not sure do a google search on the existing cables part number.

This was a satisfying repair: The Merc controller with the boat was missing it's trim button and shifting janky. This thing was straightforward to install with good directions. Found broken shift cable retainer. New Seastar cable, I measured to the inch! (how often does that happen?). One of you guys is gonna notice I still still need to zip tie the the wires. I may or may not get to that.....
