We got a dusting of snow yesterday and around here it will stay until late March or early April. I’ve been in California for the last 20 years so this will be my first Minnesota winter since 1997. I’m going snowmobile shopping today!

I get intoxicated by turbocharged performance...... If I had any brains or sense, I’d be on a long track Doo, but my riding crew are a collection of crazies..
It’s a buyers market here. Tons of leftover sleds in crates that can be had cheap, but the conditions have become so unreliable, that there’s no point to invest in it. We rode twice last year. Either a lot of snow at -15, or nothing at all.
....but if I did, that turbocharged triple would be calling my name.

Re: Winter sucks. Just saying..
I'm a skier. Been doing it 57 straight years and injuring myself repeatedly the last two. Do adult racing in SL, GS, and the odd super G. Entering Mogulmania this year as hopefully the only 60 plus year old. Love winter tires. Have purposely found winter in September in Austria and August in Chile.
Now what I hate... rust, salt, slush, frozen windshields, heating bills, falling through the ice to an icey death (Came as close as you can get to that when I was young and skating on a river)
It is about two miles from the Marina to the island in a straight line. I Kayak a longer distance and try to not find myself more than 500 yards from an island. My game plan if things go bad is to swim to the closest home with the help of my wetsuit keeping me alive and find a rock to break in the house. Apparently the dry suit is totally comfy in the water, but things go downhill very fast if any seal fails.
Here are some shots of my place on the island. It is a pretty big island with probably 50 similar sized places. The Kayak view is when I went in just after the ice left last Spring. great moment arriving.

Nicad that is sooo cool. I watched a show last night on some guy that refurbished a house on an island on some lake in Maine and thought of you.
I think about all the crap I haul in and out all the time at our place and I wonder how you do it in a kayak. Is there power on the island?

Re: Winter sucks. Just saying..
We have power yes...(the most expensive in North America to boot!!) It goes out for a few days at a time two or three times a season. I have baseboard heaters throughout and one wood stove. I rebuilt the deck last fall and hauled the lumber in on a borrowed pontoon boat. Had to do three trips as I was worried about overloading and splitting the old boat in two. Taking out the scrap was also an ordeal. Unload at the dock, load back up the boat, unlooad at dock, haul up a reasonably steep hill.....over and over again. This fall I had the remains of three trees to store in a shed I was hoping to build.
A Cherry a Birch tree and a Beach tree. The weather changed early and I put the power boats away and had to make my final departure on kayak. The folks at the Marina taking boats out were not impressed seeing someone come through the snow paddling. The last thing I did was dump my drinking water, so was committed to leaving that afternoon. The shed project was abandoned and left on the ground and I did not get time to remove the stainless prop on my Yamaha ski boat (Apparently a high winter theft item as they are shiny and attract human crows).
Looks like the next time I will be back is after the thaw. I suppose I could cross country ski in, but am a little shy about crossing ice. There is odd currents on this lake I don't know much about them. I do know that two people broke through last February somewhere on the lake and are very lucky to have survived.

Buy a snowmobile and just pin it across, that way if there's thin ice you won't even know!
