Chartplotter Install
Re: Chartplotter Install
So after playing with YT’s chartplotter back during the cobalt chat regatta I ended up pulling the trigger on a Simrad go7xsr and I ended up mounting mine to the dash. I also went with the total scan transducer since my oem depth finder shot craps. So far I am happy with the placement. I can still see all the gauges when standing and it’s still in a spot it’s easy to read. Looks huge in the picture but I like the size. Who knows maybe i’ll Catch a fish or 2 this fall when the water cools off.

Re: Chartplotter Install
thanks guys! I got to use it last night as we went and watched the fireworks over in Kimberling City. It saved my cookies for sure coming back because there isn't much on the water between here and there and it was pitch black. The navigation feature lead me straight back to the harbor.
Only thing I don't like which I kind of knew this going in but the total scan transducer doesn't read depth when you get above 30mph. Not a big deal for me as I can see the channel mapping on the screen and table rock is a very deep lake to begin with. But as soon as I slow back under 30 it comes right back on.

I bought mine to use at night and I'm very pleased with the unit. Mine is the GO5 instead of the GO7, but same unit.tgrace98 wrote: Sun Jul 01, 2018 7:45 am thanks guys! Re: Chartplotter Install
I have been researching this unit a decent amount. I thought I read that it may be a mounting issue if the depth doesn't read when at speed. I will see if I can find where I saw this.tgrace98 wrote: Sun Jul 01, 2018 7:45 am Only thing I don't like which I kind of knew this going in but the total scan transducer doesn't read depth when you get above 30mph. Any feedback on the 2 map sets?

Re: Chartplotter Install
Yeah I saw that too. To be honest I’m fine with it and don’t want to put another hole in the transom. Right now it’s mounted between the motor and trim tab on the starboard side.
Table rock is a really deep lake so I really need it just for knowing when I’m under 100ft so I’ve got enough anchor rope

Ha! I remember the first day I went out on Table Rock tgrace. I looked at my depth gauge and thought it said 29 feet.
It was 290.

Re: Chartplotter Install
That is pretty nifty.slideruleracer wrote: Fri May 18, 2018 9:09 am In 2004, the VP's were still using MEFI-4. There's a company called Fox Marine that makes a converter box to pull data straight out of the diagnostic port of the MEFI-4 computer and post it on the N2K bus:

I bought one and it is one of the items going on my new electrical panel in the engine compartment. One really nifty element of the Fox Marine Gateway is that it can pull a bunch of data off the MEFI-4 in which there are no NMEA2K identifiers, so they developed an iPhone and Android app to also allow you to monitor engine data.
