In Missouri it's not. I was told once by the water patrol anyone on the motor cover is illegal.

Wow, I seriously don't know? We are only going around 10.8 - 11.2 so it seemed safe to me at low speed and with the forward drive prop. The rule this summer has been you can ride there while surfing only to assist with rope distribution and retrieval. I will need to check prior to next outing. However, we are in Oklahoma where every great story starts with "hold my beer" so it's probably legal!

In Texas it is definitely legal until you get caught, then it might be illegal. They usually don't target 60 year old, non-drinking, fat guys, with expensive boats. They're after the rowdy crowd. I've been around them as there are a lot of patrols on my home lake, and my wife is usually on the back. Never been stopped. Doesn't mean it is legal, but I'm usually driving slow if someone is on the back. No standing on the swim platform while underway. I do have rules / limits.

YOU say ' Oh yes sir, but its different now and everything has changed. They didn't tell you? This is a surf boat and folks are supposed to ride back her to coach, advise and watch and control the rope. Its safer. Look, they even built a seat and then turned the drive around backwards for the very purpose of folks riding back here. Sooo, technically, its probably illegal for anyone to be forward of the prop while underway. They didn't tell you? Hmm.."

He will be so screwed up, he'll let you go. Guaranteed

Haa! There ya go Sooner! Your on Texoma, right? So if a TEXas patrol pulls you over, use two dollar words and he'll be properly confused. If an OKie patrol pulls you over, just say "yes sir, no sir" and then point to the drive. Then again, say "its backwards, and everything has changed"

I have all summer long to test your theory and see if it will hold up. They were everywhere over Memorial Day Weekend and didn't give us a 2nd look or seem to care. That doesn't necessarily make it right so next time I see Buford T on the water I may approach him and have a conversation. I think I would start with "do you know the guy with the Ronald boat, he said it was okay and he is from Stillwater. That should get me off with out any issue!

Thank goodness for a 502 . I take it no more idle restart issues. I didn't notice the harwood scoop. Lol

Took a bit longer to get up on plane but not much of a struggle. And no, the idle restart issue hasn't resurfaced yet. I was good for awhile about opening the engine cover to vent heat, but the last few times out I haven't done it and it hasn't died on me again yet.

BTW transom riding (that's what they call it when you ride on the engine hatch) is illegal here in AZ as well, been cited for that one before
