Seal Skin Covers

Post by TinCupp »

I’ve been looking at covers and have had a Westland picked out but have not yet pulled the trigger at $700 by the time I have it shipped.

I keep getting ads on the site for SealSkins. Anyone tried one. With their 10% discount I’m looking at around $300 savings. I’d definitely go with this on if it’s quality and helps the site out.

Alternatively, I’ve found a $200 cover that seems solid from CoverAnything.

I have been hung up on finding something to accommodate my Bimini but am now thinking I like the idea of taking the Bimini down to protect it as it’s like new on this old Cobalt. Also, don’t really need the access to the cleats as I’m not planning to have the boat in my slip with this cover on...I’ll use the snap on covers for that. Any feedback from users of the covers above is appreciated.

Sealskin. Uuuuuuugh!!
Used them for jets skis only..

They use a thin denir fabric to reduce cost that faded quickly and became paper in a year.

Only offer a 1 time replacement warranty as my current covers have already went black to faded white. So your 5 or 10 yr warranty is useless.

Owell get what you pay for..

Sunbrella or sharkskin plus is my recommendation.

Got a SealSkin 1200 to use as a temporary cover while my mooring cover was being repaired. I have to agree with cmattj. The sealskin cover fit and finish was no where close to the quality of the OEM Mooring cover made by commercial sewing. That said, it was $216 vs. $1500. I think it wouldn't last but a couple of seasons at the most and I don't tow my boat. Just a really light fabric with a one-size-fits all sizing.

Check out Bald Mikes, Big Block Power told me about them and they have some of the best prices I've seen. Looks like they have Westland exact fit covers for your boat at $631 shipped for Sunbrella or $464 shipped for Sharkskin Supreme. Those prices also include the trailer straps and a vented support pole kit.

TinCup,

I would also check out Savvy Boater to compare prices. I purchased the Shark Skin Supreme and it fits perfect and works well.

I ended up going with Bald Mike for the cover. I 2nd, best price out there. Great service and really quick turnaround as well. I’d recommend Mike to anyone looking for a cover.

Cover is on. Just in time for weekend storms. It looks like this one is going to keep the boat a lot cleaner.
