Throttle sensitivity

I am finding low speed maneuverability around the docks interesting with our A25 due to the throttle sensitivity response. Especially backing into the slip. The boat has the VP 8.1 Gi duo prop stern drive. In and out of idle speed is fine but just touching the throttle beyond idle speed position makes the boat jump. I'm getting better at very fine control inputs so it can be managed. Just have to very careful.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Can the throttle sensitivity or behavior be adjusted? Throttle response is fine for hole shot and at lake speeds. WOT registers on the money at 4800 RPM so I have full range of control. I do notice the A25's throttle response is very different from my brother's 232. There is much better low speed throttle control there (throttle movement and corresponding torque response).

My 2011 242 has a lot of travel before it engages the throttle. I'm not having the problems you've mentioned. I have the same engine and config. I will say that my idle speed feels a little fast for docking so I kick it in and out of gear to keep the speed down. I can move quite a bit forward or aft of idle without the throttle engaging quickly.

I think several people have questioned this and I think it's just something you get used to.... We don't pull in the slip with the throttle constantly engaged...neutral is your friend and sometimes reverse...just bump it in and out of gear.

Yes. I agree... slow is pro and neutral is your friend. Sounds like this is common. Thanks for the reply.

Just be careful of you didn't notice already these boats fly in reverse. As soon as I move the shifter it's in gear and ready to go.

I agree, I have never driven a boat with DP and man there is a learning curve. It is VERY responsive immediately when engaged and easy to over correct. I just mentioned this to BB the other day after I took my boat out for the first time.

Yup, first time i put my boat in reverse the boat shot back pretty quick. Girlfriend was in the bow having just on tied us from the dock.
i think she thought she was going overboard. After she figured out she was safely still in the boat she slowly turned and gave me a look and then asked me what I was doing ? To which I answered 1. Sorry
2. I'll never do it again.
3. Your right.
4. Did I say I was sorry ??

I was trying to teach my wife to load the boat and she struggled. I think the lack of driving a boat experience on top of how responsive the boat is makes it tough. Once she overcompensates turning the boat with adding the quick throttle makes it a challenge. Heck even I struggled with it. So there is definitely a learning curve.

I ended up just loading it myself but I hate to be the people who sit there at the end of the dock waiting for the person to back their trailer up. While other people could come in or out. That drives me fricken nuts and I do not want to be those people. It is almost as bad as the people that prep their boats at the bottom of the launch. So we will just have to practice and that is about it.

The plus was I did get a compliment from the DNR/game warden this weekend. He said wow that is a nice new boat! Then I told him it was 12 years old and he couldn't believe it. Even a guy launching a new Mastercraft commented how nice it looked. Sure did make me feel good especially with how there are so many little things I nitpick on the boat.

What I do is grab the truck back it up to the water jump in the boat drive it on and have the wife pull me out. 2 minutes in and out.
