See there's nothing wrong with that. Less weight and good hp. But ugly. I like the 525 looks better.

I find the 377’s gorgeous...but then again I’m not into dreamsicle orange, either.
...nothing beats that 565 or 860 or 1750 (edit) look though.

Really, there is nothing stopping VP or Merc to drop compression a couple of points and run 10 lbs of boost with a small screw charger. Unless ofcourse the cast aluminum they use has its limitations.

565 would be my new fave if the Bravo 3 could be coupled to it. B3 XR is currently limited to 520 horsies.

Looks amazing as usual...although for the first time do I dare say dated. I’m a superccharger fan but they are now going the way of the big block—i.e. dinosaur.
Merc Racing is now using naturally aspirated engines even on their new corvette 7.0L small block.
I believe the only M racing engine using forced air induction is the 9.0 liter. They figured out how to keep the torque curve flat and instant using twin turbo chargers (& race gas). Expensive ($264k MSRP/$186k invoice) but quite a feat nonetheless.
The 7.0 liter technology will eventually roll down to the Merc masses competing with VP. Can’t wait.

Re: R7 380 vs 430 - any hands on?
I’m surprised Merc is as far behind as they are. I’m reading that Merc is all about outboards now.. IMO, there is no other sterndrive choice than VP right now. I would love to see Merc step up and rock the world with something awesome.

I do wish VP would start naming engines based on actual displacement instead of horsepower. Guess using HP makes it easier for some, but there are still people who like to know what size the engine really is. Guess I am just getitng old?

I agree. Everytime I see 350 I think of the 5.7 or the old 350 mag/engine in general.NautiGirl wrote: Sun Jan 07, 2018 2:25 pm I do wish VP would start naming engines based on actual displacement instead of horsepower. Well really lets them use the same block, charge 11k for a different ECU, and call it an entire new engine. Don't see them changing that business plan anytime soon.

I find the history amusing as well, Nauti.
Used to be cubic inches—350. 454. 502 monikers
Then went to liters —5.7 / 7.4/ 8.2 L
Then back to cubic inches— 377/ 496 etc
Then to liters again —6.2 / 7.0/ 9.0L
Then to Horespower in Merc Racing 520/ 565../1750 etc.
Marketing at its finest—trying to simplify something that can get confusing —making it confusing.
...or we r just old.
